The Gunners come into this game with a goal down.
Arsenal will travel to France to face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League 2024-25 semi-final second leg. However, they don’t have a mountain to climb, but given that they will be playing away with a goal down, it will be challenging for them to put up a fight.
Mikel Arteta’s side comes into this fixture with a 2-1 defeat against Bournemouth, which has further affected their morale for the second-leg.
Arsenal this season have once again failed to put up a fight in the hope of winning the title, as Liverpool earned their 20th league title in their history. Now, the Spanish manager’s only chance of winning a trophy is the Champions League.
But they will face a big test in Parc des Princes on Wednesday night, and to spoil their hopes of a comeback, key players Jurrien Timber and Martin Odegaard could be doubtful for the game, but given both have suffered minor injuries, they should be deemed fit for the tie.
Timber suffered an injury in the first leg of the match, while Odegaard was seen limping at the full-time whistle, having earlier inadvertently kicked the turf when taking a shot.
But after the game, speaking to reporters after the game, Odegaard said: “Yeah, I think it’s okay. It was just a hit, so it’s a bit sore, but it’s fine.” Timber might miss the match against PSG.
Arsenal predicted lineup vs PSG (4-3-3)
Raya; White, Saliba, Kiwior, Lewis-Skelly; Partey, Odegaard, Rice; Saka, Merino, Martinelli
Arteta won’t be looking to make many changes to face PSG in the second leg of the semi-final. The only difference will be that Thomas Partey will return to the starting line-up, which will see Mikel Merino operating as a makeshift centre-forward.
Merino has been impressive playing as a striker, and Arteta will be counting on him to make a difference, given that he scored against Real Madrid in the quarter-final.
Meanwhile, long-term absentees Kai Havertz, Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Jesus, Jorginho and Takehiro Tomiyasu are all still recovering from their respective injuries and won’t be available for the match. Riccardo Calafiori also looks set to miss the upcoming match.
