In just the 3rd round of the FA Cup, two big teams collide.

Arsenal will look to continue their strong form at the Emirates when they host Manchester United in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup.

Mikel Arteta’s side, fresh off a tough 2-0 loss to Newcastle in the EFL Cup, are determined to bounce back in the FA Cup, where they’ve struggled in recent years. Their recent success against Man United, a 2-0 win in December, gives them confidence heading into the FA Cup tie.

Manchester United, under Ruben Amorim, have struggled in recent weeks, drawing 2-2 with Liverpool but still facing challenges, including a five-match winless streak.

However, they have been resilient in FA Cup third-round ties, having advanced in nine of their last 10, with their recent victory at the Emirates in 2019 still fresh in their memory.

Kick-off

Sunday, January 12, 4 p.m. BST (8:30 p.m. IST)

Location: Emirates Stadium

Form

Arsenal: W-W-W-D-L

Man United: L-L-L-L-D

Players to watch

Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal)

Gabriel Jesus is a key figure for Arsenal with his excellent link-up play and ability to drop into midfield. Amidst the rumours of him going out of the club in the summer, he’s hit resurgent form. So far he has scored seven goals in all competitions.

Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United)

How good is Bruno? The whole of Manchester is behind their captain Fernandes. He returned to the squad against Liverpool after serving a suspension and provided an assist. He has been key this season, contributing 16 goals across all competitions.

Match facts

  • Man United have not won a single game in the last five
  • Arsenal have eliminated the defending champs of the FA Cup in each of the last six games

Team news & injuries

Arsenal will be without key players Bukayo Saka, Ben White, Ethan Nwaneri, and Takehiro Tomiyasu due to injuries, leaving Mikel Arteta to shuffle his squad for this crucial clash. Saka’s absence, in particular, poses a challenge to their attacking fluidity.

Manchester United face their own injury concerns, with Mason Mount and Luke Shaw unavailable, while Marcus Rashford remains doubtful due to illness. Victor Lindelöf’s availability is uncertain following a recent concussion, adding to Amorim’s selection headaches.

Head-to-head

Matches: 71

Arsenal: 24

Man United: 31

Draws: 6

Predicted lineups

Arsenal (4-3-3)

Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Odegaard, Rice, Merino; Jesus, Havertz, Martinelli

Manchester United (3-4-2-1)

Onana; De Ligt, Maguire, Martinez; Mazraoui, Ugarte, Mainoo, Dalot; Diallo, Fernandes; Hojlund

Match prediction

Arteta’s men should have enough quality on home soil to break down Man United’s defence and advance past this round. Victory at the Emirates may still be out of reach for Amorim’s side, as one strong showing at Anfield doesn’t ensure a consistent turnaround.

Prediction: Arsenal 3 – 2 Manchester United
