AS Roma CEO Lina Souloukou resigns after Daniele De Rossi controversy

Roma are yet to win this season in Serie A.
The club announced that CEO Lina Souloukou has resigned, adding to the upheaval at Roma. There have been rumours that Souloukou was responsible for coach Daniele De Rossi’s dismissal.
According to claims that appeared in yesterday’s La Repubblica daily, Souloukou was given a minimal level of police protection after some ultras became incensed about the decision to terminate club hero De Rossi.
It was alleged that Souloukou had a hand in the decision to fire De Rossi. The club owners and Florent Ghisolfi, now former CEO, were present at the meeting the day before De Rossi was fired. De Rossi was told of the decision before his training the following day.
Roma supporters like De Rossi because he was a hometown guy who won the World Cup and spent practically his whole playing career for the team.
Souloukou had only assumed the position at Roma in April 2023, following her tenure as Olympiacos’ CEO.
“AS Roma announces today that CEO Lina Souloukou has stepped down from her role,” read a statement.
“We thank Lina for her dedicated service during a critical period for the club and wish her the best in her future endeavors.
“The ownership remains fully committed to AS Roma’s growth and success, with continued focus on the values that make our club so special.”
Ivan Juric was appointed as Rossi’s successor with a contract that only runs until the conclusion of the current campaign. This news was revealed on Wednesday morning.
It’s thought that Juric has a clause that lets him prolong by an additional year in the event that he takes the club to the UEFA Champions League.
De Rossi was appointed manager in mid-January after Jose Mourinho was fired. Daniele De Rossi’s sacking marks the second significant departure from the team.
Although they have not yet managed to secure a single victory this season, many speculate that the Roma coach’s departure was due to other disagreements.
