Aston Villa's all transfers completed so far in 2024-25
The Villans have been extremely proactive in this summer transfer window.
Unai Emery’s Aston Villa have already kicked off their pre-season tour in the United States this summer in order to prepare for the upcoming 2024–25 season.
Last season, Aston Villa enjoyed an incredible campaign under the experienced Spanish manager. They finished in the top four of the 2023-24 Premier League table and secured Champions League football for the upcoming season. In order to build on the successful club campaign, the Villa hierarchy spearheaded by their Managing Director, Monchi, have already completed substantial business this summer to bolster the squad.
This includes big-name signings such as Amadou Onana from Everton and Ian Maatsen from Chelsea for a total transfer package close to €95 million.
After a top club move failed to materialise last summer, Amadou Onana finally secured a big-money transfer to Aston Villa in this transfer window. During his two-year stint at Everton, Onana was one of the best upcoming defensive midfielders in the Premier League. Talented winger Lewis Dobbin also joined the club from Everton in a separate deal.
Another stellar signing from a fellow English side was talented Dutch fullback Ian Maatsen. While playing for Borussia Dortmund on loan last season, the 22-year-old left-back enjoyed a breakout club campaign, registering three goals and two assists in 38 appearances across all competitions.
In order to secure the long-term future of the club, Aston Villa also completed the double re-signing of Cameron Archer and Jaden Philogene from Sheffield United and Hull City, respectively.
As a part of Douglas Luiz’s swap deal move to Juventus, the talented duo of Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea joined Villa in the opposite direction on long-term contracts.
The Villa board also showcased some smart recruitment in the form of the bargain signing of Ross Barkley to improve the squad depth. The 30-year-old midfielder enjoyed a career-revving campaign at Luton Town last season.
On the other hand, Aston Villa have also generated massive revenue from outgoing transfers in order to comply with the stringent Profit and Sustainability Rules of the Premier League.
The biggest departures of the transfer window so far for the club have been the mega sales of their star players Moussa Diaby and Douglas Luiz to Al-Ittihad and Juventus respectively, for a combined deal worth over €100 million.
Villa have also offloaded several fringe squad players, such as Tim Iroegbunam, Morgan Sanson and Viljami Sinisalo.
Versatile defender Calum Chambers departed the Birmingham-based club as a free agent on the expiration of his contract. He eventually signed for EFL Championship side Cardiff City. Philippe Coutinho and Filip Marschall have joined Vasco da Gama and Crewe Alexandra respectively, on season-long loans.
The duo of Nicolò Zaniolo and Clément Lenglet returned to their respective parent clubs owing to the expiration of their loan deals at the end of the season.
With Aston Villa looking to cement their status as an elite team in the Premier League, further potential incomings and outgoings are expected in the remainder of the summer transfer window.
