Aston Villa re-sign English winger Jaden Philogene from Hull City

Jaden Philogene becomes Aston Villa’s seventh signing of the summer.
Aston Villa have officially announced the permanent re-signing of winger Jaden Philogene from EFL Championship club Hull City for a total package of €16m. This comes just a year after selling the player to the Tigers for a bargain fee of close to €6m.
On his return to Villa Park, Philogene has put pen to paper on a five-year contract until 2029. The player is set to experience the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League with his boyhood club. He will further hope to develop into a world-class player under one of the best managers in world football currently, Unai Emery.
After two successful loan spells at Stoke City and Cardiff City respectively, Hull City decided to sign the talented winger from Aston Villa permanently in the summer of 2023. The transfer proved to be fruitful for the Tigers, as the 22-year-old winger enjoyed a stellar campaign in the Championship, recording 12 goals and six assists. His incredible performances guided the club to an impressive seventh-placed finish in the league, narrowly missing out on the playoffs.
Following a great debut season at the MKM Stadium, Philogene already looked geared up for a fresh challenge with a bigger team. With the view of continuing his playing career in England, Philogene also rejected the massive opportunity of joining Spanish giants FC Barcelona.
When the U-21 England international looked all set to join his teammate Jacob Greaves at newly-promoted Premier League side Ipswich Town, Aston Villa jumped in to activate their contractual clause to match the Tractor Boys’ bid for the player. The Villa hierarchy were quick to finalize an agreement on personal terms with Philogene’s camp.
Following the successful completion of his medical, Jaden Philogene was officially announced as an Aston Villa player, finally bringing an end to the transfer saga.
After securing Champions League football for the upcoming season, Aston Villa have been proactive in the market so far, already securing a staggering seven signings this summer.
