Atletico Madrid's all transfers completed so far in 2024-25
Los Colchoneros will be hoping to challenge for the LaLiga title in the upcoming season.
Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid have commenced their pre-season preparations this summer in order to get geared up for the upcoming 2024–25 football campaign.
Last season, Atletico Madrid endured a mixed-bag campaign, as they finished in a respectable fourth place in LaLiga, securing UEFA Champions League football in the process. However, in cup competitions such as the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup, Atletico suffered disappointing exits. The Spanish club are looking to make strategic recruitment from the market this summer in order to bolster their overall squad.
Los Colchoneros have completed two permanent signings so far in the transfer window, which came in the form of the rock-solid Spanish centre-back Robin Le Normand and the latest addition Alexander Sørloth. The 27-year-old defender Le Normand has joined the club from fellow LaLiga side Real Sociedad on a long-term contract. Sørloth joins from Villarreal.
During his five-year stint as Real Sociedad’s first team player, Robin Le Normand was consistently one of the best defenders in the league. In the 2023-24 season, the Spanish international enjoyed an incredible campaign, making 43 appearances across all competitions while also recording two goals in the process. His stalwart performances in the backline guided the club to an impressive sixth place in LaLiga.
Le Normand was also a key figure in Spain’s Euro 2024-winning squad, as he made six appearances throughout the tournament. With his experience, defensive prowess, and leadership skills, Robin Le Normand is a perfect addition to Diego Simeone’s robust five-at-the-back system at Atletico Madrid.
At the start of the summer, a total of 11 players returned to Atletico following the expiration of their respective loan deals.
Atletico Madrid are also currently in serious talks with English giants Chelsea over the potential signing of their versatile midfielder Conor Gallagher. The two clubs have reportedly already agreed on a transfer package close to €40 million. With just a year left on his current contract with the Blues, Gallagher is expected to make a final decision on his future soon.
On the other hand, Atletico Madrid have also let go of several noticeable stars this summer, primarily in the form of free agents, in order to create much-needed space both in the squad and wage structure for potential transfer targets.
The biggest departures of the transfer window so far for the Spanish club have been the sales of striker Álvaro Morata and centre-back Çağlar Söyüncü to AC Milan and Fenerbahce respectively, for a combined deal worth around €22 million.
The experienced defensive duo of Stefan Savic and Gabriel Paulista departed Atletico as free agents on the expiration of their contracts to join Turkish clubs Trabzonspor and Besiktas respectively.
Players such as Mario Hermoso, Memphis Depay and Vitolo are still available on the market as free agents following the expiration of their respective contracts at Atletico Madrid.
Versatile midfielder Saúl Ñíguez has joined Sevilla on an initial season-long loan, with a potential buy-option clause included in the deal as well.
The next in line to depart the club this summer either on a loan deal or a permanent transfer is Portuguese sensation João Félix, who is completely out of Diego Simeone’s plans for the upcoming season.
With Atletico Madrid far from done in terms of strengthening their overall team, further potential incomings and outgoings are expected in the remainder of the summer transfer window.
