Atletico Madrid predicted lineup for LaLiga 2024-25 season

Last season Los Rojiblancos finished outside top three for the first time under Diego Simeone’s guidance.

It was a disappointing 2023-24 LaLiga season for Atletico Madrid who lost eight away games. They did end the season reasonably strong to clinch UEFA Champions League football though. Some exciting summer business have led Los Rojiblancos fans to look forward to the new campaign.

Atletico Madrid are expected to be fresher and stronger this season. They will give tough competition to their arch-rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona for the league title. Here we take a look at how Diego Simeone’s men can lineup for the 2024-25 season:

Atletico Madrid Predicted Lineup (Formation: 4-2-3-1):

Goalkeeper: Jan Oblak

Jan Oblak is one of the best goalkeepers in LaLiga. He is a very tall, athletic and physically strong keeper. He is mainly known for his speed, quick reflexes and agility as well as reading of the game.

In particular excellent handling and ability to come off his line to collect crosses enables him to excel in the air and command his area effectively. He is a proper leader on the field and without a doubt, he is the first choice for this position.

Right Back: Cesar Azpilicueta

Even though Cesar Azpilicueta is 34 years old, still he has the energy to work hard for his team for the full 90 minutes. Even though he is not the captain of the team, he always acts as a leader on the pitch. His biggest strength is his crossing ability.

The former Chelsea player is physically strong as well. He has good work ethic and always pushes his teammates to give their best on the pitch.

Center Back: Robin Le Normand

Robin Le Normand is not a good ball progressor but he is very good with his defensive responsibility. Diego Simeone will be very happy to have him on his side. He is very efficient when it comes to defensive duels, consistently coming out on top in ground duels.

Le Normand is a fearless player who is always ready for interventions. He loves to win aerial duels and has a pretty decent success rate in it. He will play a very crucial role in Atleti’s defence this season for sure.

Center Back: Axel Witsel

Defensively Axel Witsel is very sound. He had a great 2023-24 season. Witsel is good at winning duels and is very strong in his tackles.

He reads the game very well. His partnership with Le Normand will be very crucial for Atletico Madrid‘s defence this season. Even though sometimes he leaves his position to go high up the pitch, the player can track back well to help his team. Simeone will fully trust him in this position in this season as well.

Left Back: Samuel Lino

Samuel Lino uses his athleticism very well. His speed allows him to move up and down the pitch for the full match. He is a very dangerous player with the ball at his feet, always looking to dance away from players.

Lino has good technique and striking ability, which can cause trouble for the opponent team. Simeone fully trusts him to do his job and he will surely start in this position.

Central Midfield: Rodrigo De Paul

Rodrigo De Paul is a strong ball carrier who is most effective when driving through the right inside channel. He is a proper machine on the field who continuously runs for the whole match and has a great work ethic. He is not only a fan favourite but also a coaching staff favourite as well.

When required to defend he presses very aggressively and many times can win the ball back. Due to all these qualities, he will be in the starting lineup.

Central Midfield: Koke

Koke’s combination play is extremely good in tight areas. He likes to drift infield, plays passes centrally and will always look to see if a striker is making a run behind the defence into the box. Similar to his partner De Paul, he is also a very hardworking player.

He will need to consistently perform to help his team perform well in this season. With his leadership qualities, he will push the team to perform well.

Right Midfield: Marcos Llorente

Marcos Llorente can play in a variety of positions. He is the epitome of a modern footballer who can perform well consistently. He is a proper team player who is willing to help his team in every situation.

The former Real Madrid player is an intelligent player who is brilliant in identifying spaces. His passing is not his greatest strength, but with proper communication, he helps his team in exploring spaces. He is a perfect suit for Simeone’s style of play.

Central Attacking Midfielder: Antoine Griezmann

Antoine Griezmann combines the goalscoring instincts of a number nine with the creative qualities of a 10. He is a versatile player who can do several different jobs. He is very skilled at moving into positions that make it difficult for the opposition to know whose responsibility he is, thereby increasing the chances that he will be left free.

Griezmann is a very smart player who is technically very skilled. El Cholo will once again trust him to make a difference on the pitch this season as well.

Left Midfield: Rodrigo Riquelme

Rodrigo Riquelme is confident in his varied range of technical resources and does not hesitate to try to beat his man when he has the opportunity. His quick feet and low centre of gravity have a lot to say, as those factors allow him to quickly change his direction by body feints and excellent ball dominance. He possesses good tactical intelligence allowing him to find spaces between lines in the back of a rival’s midfield.

His leadership and confidence may be two remarkable aspects of his game. With his performances, he has impressed everyone so far.

Striker: Julian Alvarez

After having a very successful time with Premier League champions Manchester City, the Argentine forward decided to leave City and join El Cholo’s team in LaLiga. This will be a completely different challenge for Julian Alvarez as both coaches have a different style of play. It will be important how he can adapt to this new club.

He has enough qualities to be a starter for the team. After the departure of Alvaro Morata, his role is ever more important for sure.
