Atletico Madrid preparing for life after Diego Simeone
The Spanish club have been looking at new candidates who can succeed the Argentine.
According to Relevo, Argentinean coach Diego Simeone may soon be leaving Atletico Madrid. The source claims that for the previous five months, Atlético have been looking at possible head coach replacements.
The sports management want to make sure the club isn’t caught off guard by any potential departure. Atlético have been weighing their options since the summer, but this is not an urgent step.
It is stressed that the departure may be forced, agreed upon, or voluntarily and that the management policy as a whole is currently the main focus rather than the club’s performance. Simeone is respected by Atlético, but he feels that it is getting harder for him to keep the squad at the level it has this season, even with the team’s revamp.
The club’s management is unhappy with the team’s present performance and thinks the money spent on it should pay off.
In addition, the Argentine’s contract extension until 2027 was intended to stretch his hefty compensation over a number of years in order to preserve the club’s financial stability as well as to increase the coach’s motivation.
Before taxes, Diego Simeone’s monthly income is close to €4 million. His season pay has been lowered by 45–55% thanks to this extension.
The declining relationship between the club and the head coach has also been impacted by the hiring of Carlos Busero as the new sporting director. He is allegedly attempting to curtail Simeone’s duties, as he was previously in charge of nearly every matter. Additionally, Busero was been hesitant to sign the coach’s son, Giuliano Simeone, for Atlético Madrid.
There are a number of well-liked possibilities for the coaching post at Atletico. Jurgen Klopp, Luis Enrique, Mauricio Pochettino, Unai Emery, Marcelino García Toral, and Fernando Torres are all regarded as favourites. Busero also has a strong admiration for Luis de la Fuente and Julen Lopetegui, with whom he has collaborated in the past.
