Azerbaijan, who are in a full rut on the international scene, officially ended their slim hopes of qualifying for the World Cup on Thursday night with a lacklustre performance. The 2-0 loss to Iceland in Baku, extended their winless record in all fixtures to an astounding 14 games.

Given that France defeated Azerbaijan 3-0 at Parc des Princes in October, Aykhan Abbasov’s team is naturally huge underdogs going into this weekend’s match. They will be hoping to avoid losing to the 2022 World Cup finalists twice in a row.
