Ballon d'Or trophy: Weight, size, material, value & estimated price
The ‘Golden Ball’ is regarded as the most prestigious individual award in football
The highest honour a football player can receive in a given year is the Ballon d’Or. In the sport’s history, a number of well-known figures have won the prized title. Even though the award’s shape has evolved over time, its basic appearance has remained constant. All it would take is a glance at the coveted prize to identify it as the Ballon d’Or for any football fan worldwide.
Ballon d’Or: weight, price, cost, etc
Over the years, a lot of up-and-coming athletes have fantasised about becoming the Ballon d’Or winners. Sir Stanley Mattews was the first recipient of the medal, which was given out in 1956. Ever since, the prize has served as a symbol of distinction for personal accomplishments. François Mellerio created the award in its current incarnation. The best player of the year is chosen by a vote among 100 of the top journalists from the top 100 FIFA-ranked nations.
The award comes with no prize money, despite its great significance. That does not negate the fact that recipients of the Ballon d’Or have a financial incentive to succeed. Players have added various provisions to their contracts throughout the years that require their club to pay out a sizable bonus if the player takes home the coveted trophy.

Players like Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland have endorsement deals with their current clothing manufacturers, so they stand to earn a substantial sum of money should they win the award in addition to their clubs.
The Ballon d’Or prize is said to weigh twelve kilogrammes, and depending on the materials used to make it, the real cost of the medal could range from $3000 to $5300, according to GOAL. The prize has a diameter of 22 cm and a height of 28 cm. This raises the question: what exactly is the award composed of?
Material used in making Ballon d’Or
Although it is commonly believed that the Ballon d’Or is entirely composed of gold, this is not entirely accurate. Two brass plates are soldered together to form the foundation of the ball, which is subsequently filled with wax.
The ball is then chiselled to produce the structure depth after structuring. The ball is then covered in five kilogrammes of 18-carat gold after the initial stages. The 12-kilogram prize is completed by the 7-kilogram ball, which is supported by the pyrite foundation of the award.
