The Catalan club has been hit with four injury blows.
Barcelona’s injury situation has only gotten worse after the club was handed another injury blow when their captain and midfielder, Frenkie de Jong. The Dutch midfielder suffered a minor injury, becoming a new addition to their growing list of injuries.
Following an injury scare while playing for Netherlands on international duty, Frenkie de Jong has returned to Barcelona early.
Seven minutes before the final whistle, De Jong left the Oranje’s 1-1 tie with Poland, raising alarms. The midfielder left the field and retreated to the bench, seemingly experiencing some difficulty.
Barcelona hit with four injury setbacks
The timing of this blow is especially unfortunate for Barcelona. Alejandro Balde and Gavi are already out for Flick due to hamstring and knee issues, respectively. Additionally, Lamine Yamal had a near-injury while playing for Spain in an international match.
But there are already some worries among the Catalans. During Spain’s victory on Thursday, Lamine Yamal appeared to be experiencing back pain and was substituted out in the 78th minute.
Mundo Deportivo claims that Yamal’s injury is not major and that he will likely stay with Spain. Barcelona fans and management will be crossing their fingers, though, that the youngster doesn’t make matters worse.
Particularly after his team’s dismal 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano before the international break, Flick does not need one of his captains to be out for an extended period of time. In addition, Barcelona will play Newcastle United in the 2025–26 Champions League opener in less than two weeks.
If the Dutchman is not available, Marc Casadó will be under pressure to cover for De Jong. The 21-year-old made an impression the previous season before missing the last two months of Barcelona’s 2024–25 season due to a knee injury.
How many Barca players are currently injured?
Four players, Gavi, Balde, Yamala and De Jong are injured.
Has anyone suffered any major injury?
Balde and Gavi have been ruled out for a longer period of time.
When will Barcelona return to action?
They will play on 14th September against Valencia.
