Barcelona president Joan Laporta wants Erling Haaland next summer: Report

The Spanish club are looking to replace Robert Lewandowski.

Erling Haaland signed a lucrative nine-year contract with Manchester City less than a year ago, but FC Barcelona kingpin Joan Laporta is still “obsessed” with the prospect of enticing the striker to the Camp Nou in 2026.

Haaland, 25, has been courted by the Spanish powerhouse for a long time. Since joining City in the summer of 2022 for £51 million, he has scored goals at an incredible rate.

After dominating the Premier League, the Norwegian is considered one of the best attackers in the world with 111 goals from 126 games.

Given that Robert Lewandowski is anticipated to leave the Nou Camp at the end of the current campaign, it now looks as though Barcelona will make their move.

Despite links to Julian Alvarez, a former teammate of his from City, Barca want Haaland to be their top player in place of the legendary Polish striker, according to El Nacional.

Furthermore, given Barcelona’s well-documented financial problems in recent years, Laporta is reportedly even “optimistic” about acquiring Manchester City’s No. 9 away from England, even though any transfer would probably cost enormous sums of money.

The Spanish club’s interest in Haaland is not new. Before Barca’s fierce rivals acquired Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain, he was strongly associated with Real Madrid. There was also a release clause, which was removed after he signed a long-term deal with City.

Pep Guardiola feels that he is better than ever and looks a cut above the other talents. In his first season with the Sky Blues, Haaland scored an incredible 52 goals to lead City to the treble.
