Hansi Flick will need to decide who will replace Yamal.
Barcelona are set to be without their influential star, Lamine Yamal, when they travel to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United in their first Champions League game of the season. Yamal has been ruled out with a groin injury.
This has given Hansi Flick a selection headache ahead of the game. The German coach will need to find an ideal player who can replace Yamal on the right flank and hope he has as big an impact as the Spanish forward has in the game.
With this, we take a look at the top three Barcelona players who can replace Yamal on the right flank against Newcastle United.
Three players to replace Yamal on the right wing
3. Fermin Lopez
Fermin Lopez’s versatility on the pitch makes him a decent option to play on the right wing. His brace against Valencia was a highlight of how he can make an instant impact with his goal-scoring attributes.
However, Flick would prefer to have Lopez in the middle of the pitch, from where he brings the best out of him. He can come off the bench to add fresh legs to the team against the Magpies. But Lopez certainly stands as a decent alternative to operate from the right wing.
2. Roony Bardghji
Roony Bardghji finally made his senior Barcelona debut against Valencia and will be hoping to get some minutes against the Premier League giants. He received enough minutes to gel with the team ahead of the crucial fixture. However, his selection will heavily rely on Flick, who will decide if the Sweden international will start on the right flank or if he will go with some other player.
Even if he doesn’t start, he can certainly be used from the bench. His addition will give the team more energy from the right side to create goal-scoring chances.
1. Raphinha

Throughout his entire playing career, Raphinha has started from the right, which is his preferred position. But since joining Barcelona, he has played on the left flank more often. With Lamine Yamal’s promotion to the senior team, the Brazilian was then moved to the left side.
However, now the 28-year-old could get a nod to play from the right side with Yamal injured. Flick could certainly deploy Raphinha, given his experience and ability to find the back of the net, as we witnessed against Valencia.
