Barcelona strike pre-agreement with Nico Williams: Report

The Spanish forward is open to joining the Catalan club.
According to reports, Barcelona have reached a “pre-agreement” with Nico Williams for his summer transfer to the Catalan powerhouses.
Since it was announced last week that the Spain star’s agent met with Deco for discussions, rumours of a Barca move for Williams have intensified.
President Joan Laporta reportedly accepted the move after feeling moved by the gesture, and the most recent information is even more positive.
Williams has now signed a pre-agreement on a deal through 2031, according to a post by reporter Santi Aouna on X. The Spain star’s annual salary will be €12 million.
If the report is correct, it appears that Barcelona just need to find out how to pay Williams’ €60 million release clause.
Barcelona will now look to trigger Williams’ clause
If Barcelona want to fulfil their goal of acquiring the Athletic Club striker this summer, they will have to pay the entire amount at once, which could be troublesome.
To make this move materialise, the Catalan team have been working behind the scenes. Many believed the chance had passed after missing out on him last summer.
They are currently in discussions with the winger’s representatives to comprehend the legal procedure involved in formalising the release clause, and they are ready to trigger it.
Catalan club are also interested in Luis Diaz
When weighed against other available possibilities, the club feel Nico is the best long-term investment. Given the age and financial differences, they had to decide whether to sign Nico Williams or pursue a player like Luis Diaz.
Because of Athletic Club’s stringent policy, Nico’s €60 million release clause must be paid in full up front, while a deal for Diaz, 28, might be more flexible. Liverpool might accept payments in instalments, which would make managing finances simpler.
Even though Athletic have offered to extend his contract, Nico is now much more interested in joining Barcelona. He was apprehensive about leaving Athletic Club last year, but this time he finds the move appealing.
This agreement appears more realistic given his desire to stay in Spain and Barcelona’s faith in his abilities. Nico Williams’ next destination appears to be Camp Nou, a move that could influence Barcelona’s offensive unit for years to come.
