Thomas Tuchel reveals Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane will be fit to face Madrid

In Tuesday’s Champions League semifinal first leg at home against Real Madrid, attacker Serge Gnabry “will play and will score,” according to Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel. However, Leroy Sane’s availability for the game is uncertain.

Prior to sustaining a muscular injury on April 9, Gnabry scored in Bayern’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the first leg of the quarterfinals. Tuchel stated he will be back the following week, but he did not say if he would start.

Due to a pubic bone injury, former Manchester City forward Sane is less inclined to play; Tuchel says Bayern must “take it day by day.”

Centre-back Dayot Upamecano is also doubtful due to an ankle sprain sustained during training. Kingsley Coman, Sacha Boey, and Bouna Sarr are already out for Bayern, the six-time European champions, for this game.

Speaking in advance of Bayern Munich’s home match against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, Tuchel declined to comment on reports linking former RB Leipzig and Manchester United coach Ralf Rangnick to the position of Bayern manager come summertime.

Even though Tuchel will be leaving at the conclusion of the season, he stated he was going to stop talking about his successor and concentrate on the game of football.

“I’m putting my headphones on noise-cancelling and ignoring it. The topic won’t help me tomorrow or on Tuesday — and it’s not my topic anyway. The next 11 days cannot be about anything other than football.”

Matthijs de Ligt sustained an injury during Bayern Munich’s match against Eintracht Frankfurt, but he later went back to the game (and ultimately left at halftime, presumably as a caution). Meanwhile, Konrad Laimer, who set up Harry Kane for Bayern Munich’s best play of the day, was forced to leave the game due to what looked to be a lower leg injury.

Fans of Bayern Munich were stunned by the news, nevertheless, even before the game began. Just one day after manager Thomas Tuchel gave supporters the assurance that the young player would start, Jamal Musiala had been ruled out due to a tendon problem.

“He can’t play. He really wanted to play, we really wanted him to play. He had two days without pain and felt it again yesterday. It’s a tendon irritation that is really hindering him. He had to stop training yesterday, now we’re giving it our all for Tuesday,” Tuchel stated.
