The Red Devils got off to a poor start in the tournament.

Belgium had a disappointing start to Euro 2024 after losing the opening match against Slovakia. They now face a Romania side who impressed against Ukraine. This match will be crucial for their chances of making it to the last 16.

The Red Devils do have quality in their squad to turn the situation around, with players such as De Bruyne and Lukaku capable of leading them to success. Following this match against Romania, Belgium will play Ukraine, and the outcome of this match is critical.

Belgium predicted lineup (Formation: 4-2-3-1)

GK: Koen Casteels

Koen Casteels had a fantastic game against Slovakia as he made three vital saves to keep the score at one goal. He had a 75% save percentage against them and also distributed the ball excellently to the forward players. Casteels has slowly made the goalkeeping position his own after a series of impressive performances at the back.

RB: Timothy Castagne

Timothy Castagne endured a mixed display in the last match as he couldn’t help the team get the three points. He attempted 47 passes in the match with a pass accuracy of 92%. Castagne however will have to move in the attacking phase as he failed to create any chances in the match.

CB: Wout Faes

The Leicester City defender struggled to make a mark in the last match as he lost most of the duels. Nevertheless, this was a learning curve for him which will only benefit him in the long run. Faes made his breakthrough in the national team in 2021 and has made 16 appearances and is yet to open his account for the team.

CB: Jan Vertonghen

The Belgian defense lacked the experience of Vertonghen in the last match as he has been a vital player for them over the years. He has still got the attributes to lead the team after a good season with Anderlecht in Turkey. Vertonghen already has over 154 appearances for the team scoring 10 goals. He could be dangerous from the set-pieces as his tall physique helps him to score some vital goals.

LB: Arthur Theate

Arthur Theate remains the favourite to take the left-back role after Carrasco struggled in the last match. This brings an excellent opportunity for Theate to step up for the national team after a good season with Rennes where he made 28 appearances scoring 2 goals. There is a rock-solid defender who is strong in attacks and does not shy away from making challenges.

CM: Youri Tielemans

The Aston Villa man didn’t have much of an impact in the last match as he was given just 16 minutes to make the difference. Tielemans is probably the most attacking-minded of the two midfielders for Belgium as he can score some lovely goals from the edge of the box. He is also a threat from freekicks as he can net some wonderful ones. This season, he made 46 appearances for Aston Villa team, scoring 3 and assisting another 7.

CM: Amadou Onana

Amadou Onana had a busy day in the middle of the park for the team in the last game as he helped the defence with his timely tackles and interceptions. Onana had a 100 percent success rate in the tackles after winning them cleanly while also winning 90 percent of the duels. He can be a dangerous outlet from set-pieces as his tall physique allows him to rise above else.

RW: Jérémy Doku

Jérémy Doku had a disappointing outing against Slovakia in the opening match as they didn’t give him the space to attack. It is very rare to see him get dispossessed after a successful opening season at  Manchester City where he helped the team win the Premier League on the last day. he scored 6 goals and provided 9 assists in the season. Nevertheless, he will aim to make a significant contribution in this match to keep Red Devils’ chances alive.

AM: Kevin De Bruyne

Arguably one of the best midfielders of this generation, Kevin De Bruyne had a good game against Slovakia in the last match but couldn’t help his side overcome the defeat. He created four chances in the game while also helping out the defence by making five ball recoveries. De Bruyne had a good season with Manchester City as he netted 6 goals and provided 17 assists for the team.

LW: Leandro Trossard

Leandro Trossard is a versatile player who could make a difference from any position in the attacking third. After having an incredible season with Arsenal where he scored 17 goals and assisted 2, there were plenty of expectations from him to deliver on the big stage. However, he couldn’t prevent them from losing the match after failing to make an impact.

ST: Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku had a good season on loan at Roma where he made 47 appearances scoring 21 goals and assisting another 4. He was unfortunate in the last match against Slovakia after seeing his two goals ruled out. The second one was controversial as the handball against Openda looked very tight. Nevertheless, he will be aiming to put a strong shift against Romania in a much-important clash.
