Belgium predicted lineup for Ukraine clash in Euro 2024 group stage
All the teams in Group E have three points with a game each left to play.
Belgium started off the Euro 2024 on a horrible note losing 1-0 to Slovakia. In a group stage, where there are only three matches to play, losing a single match can have serious repercussions. Nonetheless, Belgium did bounce back in the second match securing a comfortable 2-0 win against Romania.
The fate and further qualification of Belgium and other teams in Group E will be decided in their third game. All the teams are in cutthroat competition with each other since they have three points each. Belgium are placed second and have to secure the win against Ukraine to qualify for the Round of 16.
Let’s take a look at Belgium’s predicted line-up against Ukraine for matchday 3 in the Euro 2024.
Belgium predicted lineup (Formation: 4-2-3-1)
GK: Koen Casteels
Koen Casteels could not do much in Belgium‘s disappointing loss against Slovakia. However, he made a few routine saves against Romania to help Belgium keep a clean sheet. Furthermore, Casteels even made a brilliant save against a close-range effort from Romania’s Dennis Man. Keeping Koen in the starting XI for Belgium is a no-brainer for manager Domenico Tedesco.
LB: Arthur Theate
Arthur Theate proved to be a great choice at left-back against Romania. Romania played a quick counter-attack style of football and Belgium’s Theate did not fail in putting on a good display.
Theate is a calm and composed full-back as he showed against Romania. Arthur’s previous performance against Romania will be much needed against Ukraine in Belgium’s last group-stage match of the Euro 2024.
CB: Wout Faes
Leicester City play a possession-based style of football in which defenders are key for starting attacks. Wout Faes has adapted to this system well and is reciprocating it for Belgium as well. The tall and strong Belgium youngster does not hesitate to use his strength against attackers. Faes completed the most passes against Romania and won four tackles in that game.

CB: Jan Vertonghen
With age and experience, Jan Vertonghen oozes classy performances often. The defender has a lot of experience and is arguably the most experienced veteran player in the squad.
The 37-year-old is a very calm and composed defender with a precise passing range as well. Vertonghen tends to play the ball forward precisely but does not overcomplicate the play much. His experience and defensive ability are key for Belgium as they face Ukraine.
RB: Timothy Castagne
His dynamic style of play combined with his intensity makes him a great right-back. Timothy Castagne is a versatile defender who can play as a left-back, centre-back as well as a right-back. Castagne is expected to retain his position after putting in good performances against both Slovakia and Romania.
CM: Youri Tielemans
Aston Villa‘s midfielder has shown on various occasions that he can score goals. He has shown his goalscoring ability on some occasions for Leicester City. Youri Tielemans finally did this in a much-needed win against Romania. Tielemans sealed off a brilliant team goal in just 75 seconds. Besides scoring the first goal, Tielemans offers a more attacking contribution and tends to play the ball forward.

CM: Amadou Onana
Amadou Onana’s main task is to disrupt the opposition’s play. However, he did his role very well and did even more for Belgium in their previous match against Romania. Onana made darting runs into the midfield and helped to contribute to the attack as well.
In his role, Onana made four recoveries, won three tackles and won four duels. A rock-solid presence in the midfield for Belgium.
LW: Jeremy Doku
The Manchester City winger was involved in almost all of Belgium’s attacking plays against Romania. Doku did not score or assist against Romania but put in a great performance.
Using his speed and technical ability, Doku was very dominant on the left flank against Romania. He created five chances and won four dribbles against Romania. Overall, his ability to take on players and provide crosses is very crucial for Belgium.
CAM: Kevin De Bruyne
Belgium’s captain put in an iconic performance against Romania in Euro 2024 matchday 2. Kevin De Bruyne’s performances for Manchester City over the years has led him to gain a lot of experience and growth. His vision, incisive passes and technical ability on the ball make him one of the best midfielders in the world.
Kevin De Bruyne scored a much-deserved goal against Romania and overall won 11 duels, won three dribbles and was the most fouled player. Kevin De Bruyne completely dominated the midfield and his vision and passing range are crucial for Belgium’s attack.
RW: Johan Bakayoko
The 21-year-old winger put in a great performance for his club PSV in the 2023-2024 season. Johan Bakayoko can potentially join a big European club as well since many teams are interested in signing him.
This is because of his dribbling and crossing abilities, which makes him a great winger. Furthermore, Bakayoko has a knack for scoring goals, as well, and has done it on numerous occasions. Bakayoko is yet to play at his best for Belgium and can have a chance to prove himself against Ukraine.
ST: Romelu Lukaku
The most unfortunate player in Belgium’s squad. Romelu Lukaku‘s only weakness as of now in the Euro 2024 is his lack of awareness which slows down attacking moments. Lukaku did help the ball cross the opposition goalline on many occasions in Euro 2024, but all of them have been ruled offside.
His strength, his runs in the final third, combined with his poaching ability make him a great striker. Lukaku set up Youri Tielemans’s goal in Belgium’s 2-0 win against Romania. Surely, a striker with the calibre of Romelu Lukaku will definitely bag a goal sooner or later.
