Will these players find a new club to play for?

The summer transfer window is set to close. There have been a number of significant transfers so far. The transfers of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid, Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid and Matthijs de Ligt to Manchester United were definitely the ones that had the most impact on the market.

However, with the transfer market still open, things can still stir up a bit. Some teams might be looking for some free agents to fill up their ranks. As it stands out, there are some pretty interesting options in the market that teams can still choose from. It includes seasoned veterans like Memphis Depay, Joel Matip and Mario Hermoso.

Here are the top eight free agents available at the end of the summer transfer window:

8. Mats Hummels

Mats Hummels’ contract at Borussia Dortmund expired back in June. The German defender, who was disappointed about not making it to his nation’s Euro 2024 team, was supposed to move to Donostia-San Sebastian but decided against it in the end. He has now been linked to Seria A side Bologna and Premier League side Brighton.

7. Iker Muniain

Former Athletic Bilbao captain Iker Muniain has been an integral part of the Spanish team since 2005. His long stint at the club finally came to an end this summer. It was initially reported that the Spaniard would move to River Plate, but that transfer couldn’t go through. He is reported to have offers from some Saudi Arabian teams.

6. Joel Matip

A Liverpool legend, Joel Matip, became a free agent when his contract with the English giants expired this summer. He has been linked to Lazio and the defending champions of the Bundesliga, Bayer Leverkusen. If the Cameroonian eventually decides to join Xabi Alonso’s team, he will be a really great defensive addition.

5. Wissam Ben Yedder

Wissam Ben Yedder’s stint at AS Monaco came to an end three months ago. This was after five successful seasons in which he scored a total of 118 goals for the club. The French striker has proven his mettle time and again at both Sevilla and Monaco. He will be a great addition to any team that decides to sign him.

4. Anthony Martial

Anthony Martial, who was once deemed to be one of the most promising talents at Manchester United, turned out to have a really disappointing end to his stint at the English club. After 10 years at United, the Frenchman will finally move elsewhere. It will be interesting to see whether that brings a significant change in his career trajectory.

3. Memphis Depay

Despite being a world-class striker, Dutch international Memphis Depay is currently without a club. His contract with Atletico Madrid expired on June 30. The two parties could not agree on a contract renewal. Depay has a pretty impressive resume, having played at PSV, Lyon, Manchester United and FC Barcelona before his eventual move to Atletico Madrid.

2. Mario Hermoso

Mario Hermoso has been a free agent from the very beginning of this summer transfer window. His longtime employers, Atletico Madrid, were not interested in renewing his contract. He’s now looking for a new club.

Three Premier League clubs, namely Nottingham Forest, Manchester City and Chelsea, are reportedly linked with the Spaniard. However, he could also move to Saudi Arabia.

1. Adrien Rabiot

The French midfielder’s contract at Juventus expired earlier this summer. Having rejected Juventus’ proposal to keep him at the Italian club, the 29-year-old made it clear that he intends to find a new challenge elsewhere. Adrien Rabiot is definitely the hottest prospect on this list.

He has been linked with Premier League sides Newcastle United, Manchester United and Liverpool. AC Milan and Bayern Munich are two other clubs that are seemingly interested in signing Adrien Rabiot.
