The Premier League is home to some of the best managers in world football.

With the 2024-25 Premier League campaign less than a month away, all the clubs have commenced their pre-season preparations and have been proactive in the summer transfer window in order to bolster their respective squads.

In recent years, the Premier League has officially cemented itself as the most watched football competition in the world due to its high-octane matches and overall superior quality of players. The Premier League is also home to some of the best managers currently in world football who have achieved incredible success with their respective clubs through their dominant style of play.

With that said, here are the top five best managers in the Premier League 2024-25 season:

5. Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace)

Oliver Glasner was appointed as the new manager of Crystal Palace in February, after the club had found itself in a potential relegation battle under former head coach Roy Hodgson.

With his incredible player management skills and tactical fluidity, Glasner enabled Palace to play an attractive brand of football and go on an impressive unbeaten streak that saw them finish tenth in the Premier League.

The 49-year-old Austrian previously also enjoyed a successful spell at German outfit Eintracht Frankfurt, winning the UEFA Europa League trophy in the process.

With exciting new summer signings and a full pre-season under coach Oliver Glasner, Crystal Palace could well and truly push for European football spots in the upcoming season of the Premier League.

4. Eddie Howe (Newcastle United)

With his incredible work at Newcastle United in recent campaigns, Eddie Howe has undoubtedly been one of the best managers in the Premier League. After his impressive stint at AFC Bournemouth, Howe became the first managerial appointment at Newcastle under the new ownership of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

Ever since his appointment in 2021, the 46-year-old Englishman has guided the club to Premier League safety and a top four finish, along with securing UEFA Champions League football at St. James’ Park.

Despite an underwhelming injury-ridden campaign last season, Eddie Howe has brushed aside the rumours of the national team job in order to give his complete focus to the long-term project at Newcastle United.

3. Unai Emery (Aston Villa)

Ever since his appointment as Aston Villa’s manager midway through the 2022–23 season, Unai Emery has guided the club from the status of relegation battlers to a strong top six Premier League team. In his first six months in charge, Aston Villa finished seventh in the domestic league, securing European football in the process.

However, in his first full campaign last year, the 52-year-old Spaniard defied all the odds and guided Villa to an incredible fourth-place finish in the Premier League, securing Champions League football in the process. In addition, the Birmingham club also reached the semifinals of the UEFA Conference League.

Having recently signed a new long-term contract until June 2029, Unai Emery’s Aston Villa could be a menacing force to reckon with across all competitions in the upcoming season.

2. Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)

Even in his young managerial career so far, Mikel Arteta has already cemented himself as one of the best upcoming managers in world football. After replacing former head coach Unai Emery in the Arsenal dugout during the 2019-20 season, Arteta endured a disappointing first few campaigns at the club.

However, the 42-year-old Spaniard has managed to turn things around in exceptional fashion as his team narrowly missed out on the Premier League title in the last two seasons, finishing a close second to champions Manchester City on both occasions. Under his reign, the North London club also made a spectacular return to the UEFA Champions League after a long absence. Mikel Arteta’s side made an impressive run to the quarterfinal stages of the competition.

With Arsenal progressing in the upward trajectory, Mikel Arteta is expected to be at the helm of affairs to fulfil the club’s long-term goals of winning domestic and European trophies.

1. Pep Guardiola (Manchester City)

Arguably one of the greatest managers in all of football history has been Spanish mastermind coach Pep Guardiola. After his stellar managerial success at elite teams such as FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich, the 53-year-old Spaniard joined Manchester City in 2016 to put the club at the top of world football.

In his eight-year stint at the Etihad Stadium so far, Guardiola has won it all with the Sky Blues, claiming six Premier League and one UEFA Champions League titles, two FA Cups and four Carabao Cups. During this period, he has made Manchester City one of the most dominant teams in the world.

With his current club contract expiring in June 2025 and the England national team job lurking, the Premier League will get to experience Pep Guardiola’s intricate tiki-taka style of play for at least one more season.
