Top five best managers in Serie A 2024-25 season
The Serie A is home to some of the best managers in the world.
With the 2024-25 Serie A campaign fast approaching, all the Italian clubs have participated in their pre-season preparations. They also have been proactive in the summer transfer window to bolster their respective squads.
In recent years, the Serie A has been one of the most competitive football competitions in the world, with four different champions being crowned in the last five editions of the league. Due to this, the Italian top division is currently one of the top five football leagues in the world.
In addition, Serie A is also home to some of the most talented managers in world football who have achieved incredible success with their respective clubs through their dominant style of play. With that said, here are the top five best managers in the Serie A 2024-25 season:
5. Vincenzo Italiano (Bologna)
One of the best upcoming Italian managers in recent seasons has been Vincenzo Italiano. During his successful three-year stint as Fiorentina’s head coach, Italiano grew to prominence owing to his attacking brand of football that can cope with top teams in the Serie A.
His most notable accomplishment with Fiorentina was to guide the Italian club to consecutive UEFA Conference finals in the last two seasons. Owing to his impressive managerial record, Vincenzo Italiano was appointed as Bologna’s new head coach in the summer on a two-year contract to replace the departing Thiago Motta.
4. Gian Piero Gasperini (Atalanta BC)
One of the longest-reigning managers currently in the Serie A is Atalanta’s experienced Italian head coach, Gian Piero Gasperini. Having joined the club all the way back in 2016, Gasperini has managed 387 games for Atalanta, guiding the club to multiple top-four finishes in the league with an exciting brand of attacking football.
Last season, the 66-year-old Italian delivered one of the most iconic moments in the club’s history, as Atalanta defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the UEFA Europa League final to clinch the coveted trophy. With Champions League football to play in the upcoming season, Gian Piero Gasperini will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest managers in Atalanta’s history.
3. Antonio Conte (SSC Napoli)
After incredibly successful past stints with juggernauts Juventus and Inter Milan, mastermind coach Antonio Conte has returned to the Serie A in order to manage SSC Napoli. The 55-year-old Italian has put pen to paper on a lucrative three-year contract as he looks to get Napoli back to the pinnacle of Italian football.
After finishing at a shocking tenth place in the Serie A last season, the Napoli hierarchy led by their passionate President Aurelio de Laurentiis left no stone unturned. This summer they appointed Conte as the new first-team manager for the foreseeable future.
Antonio Conte has won an impressive four Serie A titles and one Italian Super Cup throughout his illustrious managerial career.
2. Thiago Motta (Juventus)
Undoubtedly one of the best young managers in world football currently is former PSG star Thiago Motta. After retiring from football in 2018, Motta successfully transitioned into the managerial field as he was appointed the head coach of PSG’s U19 team just a year later.
Following promising stints at Genoa and Spezia Calcio, the 41-year-old Italian was appointed as Bologna’s manager in 2022. With Motta’s unorthodox attacking style of football, Bologna were one of the most entertaining teams in the Serie A last season, as they finished fifth in the league, securing Champions League football in the process.
After parting ways with Massimiliano Allegri in the summer, the Juventus board appointed Thiago Motta as the new permanent manager on a three-year deal. He was viewed as the perfect candidate for the long-term future of the club.
1. Simone Inzaghi (Inter Milan)
With his recent success at Inter Milan, Simone Inzaghi is one of the best managers not just in Serie A but all of world football. Following his successful spell as Lazio’s head coach, Inzaghi was appointed as the successor to Antonio Conte at Inter in 2021 to manage the helm of affairs.
During his three-year stint so far as Inter Milan’s manager, the 48-year-old Italian has guided the club to one Serie A title, two Italian Cups and three Italian Super Cups. Under Inzaghi’s reign, the Italian giants also reached the 2022–23 UEFA Champions League final, where they narrowly lost to eventual winners Manchester City.
Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan are once again heavy favourites to reclaim the Serie A title in the upcoming 2024-25 season.
