Bolivia names squad for 2026 World Cup playoff semifinal against Suriname
The South American giants finished seventh in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers.
On Monday, Bolivia’s all-time greatest scorer, Marcelo Martins Moreno, was not included in the roster for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff match.Since November 2023, the 38-year-old, who has scored 31 goals in 108 international games, has not played for Bolivia. Last month, he signed with his childhood team, Oriente Petrolero, after coming out of retirement.Veteran goalkeeper Carlos Lampe, key defender Luis Haquin, and midfield enforcer Moises Villarroel are all part of the team under manager Oscar Villegas.Bolivia are invited for the playoff round in Mexico after placing seventh in the South American qualifying group. They last participated in the World Cup finals in 1994.
On March 26, they are going to play their semi-final playoff game in Monterrey against Suriname; the winner will play Iraq five days later.
Three Santos FC players, Marcelo Contreras, Miguelito, and Enzo Monteiro, have been called up by Bolivia for the 2026 World Cup play-off match against Suriname on the 26th. On Sunday, the 15th, La Verde will play a friendly match in Santa Cruz de la Sierra against Trinidad and Tobago.
