Bosnia-Herzegovina and Qatar last faced each other in 2010 in a friendly game.

The stage is set for Bosnia-Herzegovina’s final group stage game at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as they take on Qatar at the Seattle Stadium in Washington on Wednesday, June 24. The match is also crucial for Bosnia-Herzegovina, as it will decide their fate in the upcoming knockout round of the summer competition.

A win could help Bosnia solidify their stance as one of the best-ranked third-placed teams that will advance to the knockout round.

Currently third in Group B with only one point, Bosnia started their campaign with a gritty 1-1 draw against co-hosts Canada. However, they then suffered a heartbreaking 4-1 defeat to Switzerland, with all four goals coming in the second half. Apart from that, Tarik Muharemovic also showed a red card and will miss the upcoming clash against Qatar.

Edin Dzeko’s and Ermedin Demirovic’s form will be crucial for Bosnia-Herzegovina, while Nikola Vasilj will also be required to stay ready in front of the net.

On the other hand, after playing a 1-1 draw against Switzerland, Qatar suffered a heavy 6-0 loss against Canada in their second match. Juventus attacker Jonathan David scored a memorable hat-trick while Mohammed Manai gave away an own goal.

Two Qatari players, Homam Ahmed and Assim Madibo, were shown red cards and will miss the 2022 hosts’ last group-stage game.

Thoughts on the line-up

Ermedin Demirović and Edin Džeko will continue to lead the Bosnian line-up from the front, as they look to score and regain form before the knockout stage commences, should they qualify.

Esmir Bajraktarević and Kerim Alajbegović will play on the wings while controlling the tempo of the game and providing width. Ivan Bašić and Ivan Šunjić are crucial to Bosnia, as they support the team’s framework and serve as the engine.

Former Arsenal defender Sead Kolašinac, alongside Arjan Malić, Nikola Katić, and Stjepan Radeljić, will be playing in defence, with 22-year-old Nikola Vasilj in goal. Sergej Barbarez has decided to keep the line-up simple and is likely to work against Qatar.
