Bosnia-Herzegovina vs Qatar: Five Key Battles to Watch On the Pitch in this FIFA World Cup 2026 Match

Edin Dzeko and Akram Afif would be the most likely to score in this FIFA World Cup 2026 game

Bosnia-Herzegovina and Qatar have a date with destiny in the final gameweek in Group B. Both nations can advance to the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup 2026 if they win their games on Wednesday.

Players from both sides will be pumped up and hungry for a win, as a draw won’t do either country any good. Here are five key battles to watch in the Bosnia-Herzegovina vs Qatar game.

5. Jovo Lukic vs Boualem Khoukhi

Moving from the Bosnian captain to the Qatari captain, Boualem Khoukhi has been part of Qatar’s national team since 2013. Khoukhi has scored 21 goals in 127 appearances for Qatar, and he is still going strong at the age of 35.

Playing a 4-4-2 formation, Jovo Lukic will likely start alongside Dzeko in attack for the Bosnians. The forward scored against Canada in the 1-1 draw, but he didn’t play many minutes in the 4-1 loss to Switzerland.

4. Amar Dedic vs Akram Afif

Akram Afif came to the FIFA World Cup 2026 on the back of successful campaigns in the last two AFC Asian Cups. However, Afif or any of his teammates have yet to score a goal in this tournament ahead of their final group game.

Standing across Afif would be Bosnia’s left-back Amar Dedić. The 23-year-old plays for Benfica and has made 16 defensive contributions and 11 recoveries in this World Cup.

3. Nikola Katic vs Yusuf Abdurisag

Nikola Katic will be leading Bosnia’s defensive line once again. The centreback will be without his defensive partner – Tarek Muharemovic, who got a red card in the 4-1 loss to Switzerland. The Schalke player has won 32 duels in two games and will be tough to get past.

Qatar’s forward Yusuf Abdurisag has a poor record in front of goal, having scored just thrice in 49 games for his country. He will drop into the right wing when needed, as his pace would be tough for the Bosnian defenders to handle.

2. Sead Kolasinac vs Jassem Gaber

Jassem Gaber will be playing in Qatar’s right midfield, and he will be constantly up against Bosnia’s veteran left back, Sead Kolasinac. The 33-year-old former Arsenal player has a habit of going up the wings to help his attackers, and hence, he will constantly be up against Jassem Gaber.

Kolasinac assisted Bosnia’s goal against Canada in the 1-1 draw. Owing to their advanced play, Gaber and Ayoub Al Oui may start a counterattack from the right-hand side if they dispossess the Bosnian defender in their half.

1. Edin Dzeko vs Pedro Miguel

Edin Dzeko is Bosnia-Herzegovina’s captain and top goalscorer with 73 goals in 149 appearances. Ready to lace his boots for the 150th time, the Schalke player’s experience is what his nation needs as the knockout qualification is still in their hands.

Qatar’s Pedro Miguel will be responsible for keeping Dzeko quiet, as the central defender will be marking and going against Bosnia’s captain throughout the game. Qatar conceded six goals in their last game, while Bosnia have failed to score more than one goal in any of their last seven games, making this battle even more important.

What is the head-to-head record between Bosnia-Herzegovina and Qatar?
