The Selecao laboured to a 1-1 draw against Morocco in their World Cup opener tonight.
Brazil came from a goal down to rescue a 1-1 draw against Morocco in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group C clash at MetLife Stadium on June 13. The result, while a disappointing one for Carlo Ancelotti’s men, extended their unbeaten streak in World Cup openers to 21 matches. This incredible 92-year run stretches all the way back to 1938.
Ismael Saibari scored for the Atlas Lions in the 21st minute. However, Vinicius Jr. equalised for the Selecao just 11 minutes later with a brilliant individual effort. A gritty second half saw both teams settle for the result, which sees them share a point.

Selecao’s unbeaten run

The five-time champions have now been unbeaten in 21 of their opening matches in the tournament. The Selecao won 17 of those matches, with the other four games ending in draws.
The only two times they suffered defeats in their first game were in the 1930 and 1934 World Cups – a 2-1 loss against Yugoslavia and a 3-1 defeat to Spain, respectively.
Brazil will look to clinch their first win of the campaign when they take on Haiti in their next outing. Neymar, who missed the match against Morocco with a calf strain, will likely be fit to play in the next game. The Santos forward will look to inspire his team to a record sixth World Cup title, which the South American nations have not won since 2002.
