Brazil predicted lineup for Uruguay clash in Copa America 2024 quarter-final
Vinicius Jr will miss the match due to booking against Colombia.
It’s set to be a clash of the Titans when former champions Brazil & Uruguay clash in the last quarter-final of Copa America 2024. The highly anticipated fixture is scheduled at Allegiant Stadium, Paradise, Nevada.
Dorival Junior’s Selecao gave a decent group stage performance, drawing two and winning one game. The team is yet to perform to its true potential & will be hoping to show their true colors when they lock horns with the most successful team of Copa America.
So far, Brazil drew with Costa Rica in the opener, won in style against Paraguay & shared spoils with group leaders Colombia. The team has scored five goals collectively while receiving two. On that note, let’s have a look at how Brazil would line up in the last-eight fixture:
Brazil’s predicted lineup against Uruguay:
GK: Alisson
The champion Liverpool goalie is always the first-choice for Brazil in the recent past. He played in all the group-stage games; and maintained a clean sheet against Costa Rica while facing just one goal each against Paraguay & Colombia.
Getting past Allison will be the biggest challenge for the lethal forward line of Uruguay. Apart from his apt reflexes to be of high use in the 90 minutes, his penalty-saving skill will be extremely valuable if the game reaches shoot-outs.
RB: Danilo
The veteran Juventus defender has started in all three games in the group stage and is expected to be fielded again in this vital match. Danilo has done error-free defending in the last three games and his apt tackles will be highly crucial against the Uruguay forward line.
CB: Eder Militao
The 26-year-old is one of the most high-profile defenders in Brazil’s current squad. The champion stopper has had a wonderful season with Real Madrid & would love to achieve a trophy with his nation now.
Militao’s primary duty will be to block any attacking threat possessed by Darwin Nunez. He also needs to keep his head calm as he already has a yellow to his name.
CB: Marquinhos
The PSG stopper has also been an integral part of Brazil’s back-line in the ongoing competition. He has performed his duties in the best way possible while playing full minutes in the group stage. Coach Dorival wouldn’t dare to alter his rock-solid defense.
LB: Guilherme Arana
The 27-year-old served as a left-back efficiently in the first game before being benched in the next two. Interestingly, Arana being present in the defense has earned Brazil the only clean sheet in this tournament. So, we might see him making a comeback against a formidable Uruguay.
CDM: Bruno Guimaraes
The 1.81m New Castle CDM has consistently delivered for his nation in the ongoing tournament. Featuring in all three games, the defensive midfielder has successfully disposed of all possible threats whenever they appeared. His role will be vital while trying to win the ball back in the midfield & do a counterattack.
CDM: Joao Gomes
The 23-year-old has been a perfect partner in crime for Guimaraes. The talented midfielder has also cleared quite a few chances while also trying to help the wingers and forwards. Like Guimaraes, he has also proved his worth & would certainly play a crucial role in chance creations.
RW: Raphinha
With Vinicius Junior out, serving a suspension, the high-paced FC Barcelona winger will have a lot of duties to perform. Raphinha scored a beauty against Colombia, in the 12th minute from a direct free-kick. Fans will surely expect him to score more.
Besides having a high speed, Raphinha regularly disturbs defense lines with his frequent shots. His coach will expect him to convert those shots into goals in the knockouts.
CAM: Lucas Paqueta
The West Ham attacking midfielder is known to create perfect goal-scoring chances, apart from providing assists and scoring goals. Paqueta is doing the exact same things in Copa America 2024.
He was exceptional in the Paraguay game, scoring and assisting one each. He is surely the pivot of Dorival’s tactics. He will be shelved with responsibilities to cater good balls to Raphinha, Rodrygo & Endrick.
LW: Rodrygo
The ace Real Madrid winger usually operates from the right but is never shy when said to perform his responsibilities from the left. Rodrygo hasn’t yet shown his true potential, but his team will expect him to deliver from now on when the quarters begin.
Rodrygo has featured in all three games, but hasn’t yet scored a goal or provided an assist. However, in the absence of star Vinicius, he will be getting the perfect opportunity to become the hero.
ST: Endrick
A sensational, lethal & prolific teenager, Endrick is already making headlines with his skills & scoring ability. The wonder kid has got too less minutes in the competition, but now with no Vinicus in the game, he has the perfect opportunity to showcase his brilliance. With stakes high, a goal here will make Endrick an instant star.
