Brazil are currently placed third in Group C with one point from one game.

Two teams coming off disappointing results in their opening matches, where both felt they could have achieved more, will face each other in their second game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup as Brazil take on Haiti.

The Group C clash is scheduled to take place at Philadelphia Stadium in Pennsylvania, USA, on June 19. A victory will be crucial for both sides if they are to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stages alive. While Brazil will enter the match as overwhelming favorites, Haiti will be hoping to pull off a major upset, something that can never be completely ruled out in football.

In modern football, individual battles across the pitch often play a decisive role in determining the outcome of a match. Here are five key duels that could have a major influence on the result when Brazil and Haiti take the field.

5. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde vs Bruno Guimaraes

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, who plays for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League, is set for an intriguing battle against fellow Premier League midfielder Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle United. Bellegarde is an excellent ball carrier who can drive forward from deeper positions thanks to his impressive balance and athleticism. His ability to break past midfields through dribbling could be one of Haiti’s most effective attacking weapons.

Standing in his way will be Bruno Guimaraes, a midfielder renowned for his passing range, composure, and ability to dictate the tempo of a game. With players such as Casemiro and Fabinho struggling to impress, Guimaraes has become increasingly important to Brazil’s midfield structure.

One area Brazil must be careful about is conceding unnecessary fouls in midfield. Guimaraes occasionally commits unnecessary fouls to halt counterattacks, but against a progressive ball carrier like Bellegarde, those fouls could hand Haiti valuable set-piece opportunities in dangerous areas.

4. Ruben Providence vs Danilo

One of the biggest concerns for Brazil in recent years has been the right-back position. Even Carlo Ancelotti appears unconvinced by his available options, rotating personnel during the opening game. Roger Ibanez started the match but failed to impress, leading to veteran defender Danilo featuring in the second half.

While Danilo still offers valuable experience, aerial strength, and defensive awareness, he could face a difficult task against Ruben Providence. The Haitian winger is known for his direct style of play and willingness to attack defenders whenever he receives possession. Providence is capable of cutting inside to shoot as well as driving down the wing to deliver crosses. His versatility and unpredictability could make him a difficult opponent for Danilo, particularly in one-on-one situations.

3. Louicius Deedson vs Douglas Santos

On the opposite flank, Douglas Santos delivered a relatively solid performance against Morocco, although it was still below the standards typically expected from a Brazilian full-back. His likely opponent, Louicius Deedson, is a winger who brings tremendous energy and attacking intent. Deedson constantly looks to attack the far post, make late runs into dangerous areas, and finish chances whenever possible.

Unlike modern wingers who rely heavily on dribbling, Deedson’s game is built more around intelligent movement, attacking positioning, and his eye for goal. Douglas Santos’ positional discipline and defensive awareness should help him deal with those threats. However, Deedson’s movement can often create space for overlapping full backs, an area where Santos have occasionally looked vulnerable.

2. Wilson Isidor vs Marquinhos

Brazil captain Marquinhos will face an interesting challenge against Sunderland forward Wilson Isidor. Marquinhos has built his reputation relying on his intelligent positioning, experience, and his ability to make crucial blocks and interceptions inside the penalty area.

Isidor, however, presents a different type of threat. Rather than operating as a traditional center-forward, he often drifts into wider areas, particularly on the left side, before cutting inside towards goal. The Haitian attacker also possesses the pace to trouble opponents on the counterattack, an area where Brazil looked vulnerable against Morocco.

1. Carlens Arcus vs Vinicius Junior

Haitian right-back Carlens Arcus is one of the longest-serving members of the NT setup. He started the opening game against Scotland and put in a respectable performance, using his physicality, work rate, and stamina to contribute at both ends of the pitch throughout the ninety minutes.

However, the challenge awaiting him this time is significantly tougher. Arcus is expected to come up against Vinicius, widely regarded as one of the best left wingers in world football. Vinicius thrives in one-on-one situations and possesses the ability to beat defenders, cut inside, score goals, or create chances for his teammates.

Arcus has often been criticised for being overly aggressive in his tackling, and that is something he will need to control. Vinicius is extremely intelligent when it comes to drawing fouls in dangerous areas, and unnecessary challenges could provide Brazil with valuable set-piece opportunities.
