Brazil will face Morocco for the second time in the FIFA World Cup.
The stage is set for Brazil’s opening FIFA World Cup 2026 game against last edition’s semi-finalists, Morocco. The Group C fixture will be played at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on June 13. The game will kick off Group C action, as Haiti vs Scotland is also set to be played later in the night.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side secured their berth in the World Cup by direct qualification after finishing in the top six of the CONMEBOL standings. They were fifth in the 10-team round-robin group with 28 points in 18 games.
Currently pursuing their first World Cup title since 2002, Brazil will aim to start their campaign on a high note with a victory over Morocco. Despite missing Rodrygo, Estevao, Eder Militao and Wesley from the 26-man list, Selecao are expected to make a deep run in the tournament under Carlo Ancelotti.
Morocco also secured direct qualification in the FIFA World Cup by topping Group E of the CAF qualifiers with eight wins in eight games. The Atlas Lions are slowly solidifying themselves as one of the strongest teams in Africa.
Morocco started the year by losing the AFCON final to Senegal on home soil. However, they were later awarded the AFCON title after a controversial penalty against Senegal, who walked off the pitch in protest.
Talking about the game, Brazil have never lost their opening World Cup game since 1934; however, on the other side, Morocco are currently on a 28-match unbeaten streak. Morocco also recorded their first-ever victory over the five-time champions in their last meeting in March 2023.
