The Red Devils’ captain has had a stellar season, helping his side finish 3rd in the Premier League!

After Bruno Fernandes equalled the all-time assist record in Man United‘s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest, former Red Devils captain had a lot to say about the Portuguese star.

Roy Keane slammed Bruno Fernandes and his Premier League assist record on a recent episode of The Overlap:

“What do you get for being level with De Bruyne and Henry [on assists]? NOTHING.

“What’s the priority when you play for Man United? The number one priority? Winning trophies.”

“He will NOT be winning trophies at United with that mindset from the players.”

“They conceded two goals and everyone’s getting giddy because he’s equalled a record for assists. It’s MIND BOGGLING. It’s a circus act.”

However, fans were really quick to point out that Roy Keane misquotes Bruno Fernandes by claiming he said he should have shot but passed for assists; Fernandes actually said “there were probably moments today that I should have passed instead of shooting.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright defended Bruno Fernandes from the harsh criticism of Roy Keane:

“No bro, not Bruno! Come on Roy, if you’re gonna dig someone out, don’t dig him out every single time. Who brought them back into the game when things were looking dead? It’s not Bruno, – when we’re talking about someone who can actually do something to save you lot, it’s Bruno! Yeah, maybe he’s not that captain like Tony Adams, Roy… but what he’s doing week in, week out is saving you – those killer passes, the goal, the vision. If Bruno’s not there, United are deep in the relegation places, trust me! You can talk about mentality and leadership all day, but the lad is a footballing genius who’s carrying this team.”

Now, the FWA Player Of The Year winner, Bruno Fernandes, has responded to the criticism.

“[Individual awards] is NOT something that I will ever CHASE. I know people can have different opinions about me.”

“But they cannot say that I am NOT someone that looks to [help] the team and tries to make the team the most successful one.”

“I will always try to WIN trophies and not individual accolades.”
