As the ultimate homage to the legendary forward’s career, Bruno Fernandes, captain of Manchester United, has set his sights on winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Bruno Fernandes wants to win the World Cup for Ronaldo

Fernandes is determined to make sure Cristiano Ronaldo’s international career concludes as triumphantly as possible. The 2026 World Cup is the final opportunity for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner to win the one trophy that has eluded him throughout his record-breaking career. Additionally, the 41-year-old Al-Nassr icon is probably heading into his final big event.
Bruno Fernandes expressed his intentions about his national team captain in an interview with Wayne Rooney on the BBC.
“I will try my best to make my country proud. Wrapping up this last World Cup with Cristiano (Ronaldo), winning it would be something amazing,” Fernandes said.
“I really hope we can make it happen, not just for Portugal, but for everything Cristiano gave to football and the world.”
Cristiano Ronaldo continues to be the major attraction for Roberto Martinez’s team despite his advanced age. With 143 goals, the Al-Nassr forward holds the record for most goals scored in international football history, and he has no intention of giving up his position.
Martinez has been outspoken about the striker’s longevity, claiming that the veteran’s mental toughness is what keeps him competing at the top level when others might have given up.
Bruno Fernandes has become the clear leader in the dressing room under Michael Carrick’s tutelage. In addition to his responsibilities for the national team, Man United’s management sees him as the cornerstone of their plan to return to the top of European football.
