The Newcastle midfielder has played with Neymar for Brazil.

One of Newcastle United’s mainstays and a frequent member of the Brazilian national team, Bruno Guimarães, recently offered his opinion on one of the most controversial issues in football: Who is the best player of all time?

Bruno has established himself as a pillar for Newcastle, most notably helping the team win the 2025 Carabao Cup, their first major championship in decades. In addition, he has 33 caps for Brazil and is expected to play a significant role in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 26-year-old midfielder admitted to facing Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Neymar in an interview with TNT Sports, but his decision was unambiguous and decisive:

“I’ve played against Messi, Cristiano, Neymar… I’ll go with Messi.”

Despite competing against Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo at the club level and sharing multiple Brazil camps with Neymar, Bruno Guimarães thinks the Argentine’s career is superior to the others.

Messi remains the standard for many of today’s best players, having won eight Ballon d’Ors, major championships in Europe and South America, and the 2022 World Cup.

Since winning the World Cup, many feel Messi has established himself as the greatest of all time. Now the forward is spending his last playing years in America.

Messi currently plays in the MLS for Inter Miami. The player has already led the Herons to two trophies and has transformed them into a title contender as they try to fight for all trophies this season. This is another testament to how Messi has influenced the sport in America and made Miami into a top side.

Meanwhile, 40-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo is playing for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia and has continued to score goals for them. On the other hand, Neymar is back at Santos after a forgettable spell at Al-Hilal. Once again, the player is spending most of the time on the sidelines.
