Achraf Hakimi won the African Player of the Year award.

At the awards presentation in Rabat on Wednesday, November 19, Achraf Hakimi and Ghizlane Chebbak were recognised as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Players of the Year for 2025. Chebbak was the first Moroccan woman to take home the women’s prize, while Hakimi won the men’s award for the first time.

After an outstanding season at Paris Saint-Germain, where he was a key player in a season that won four major titles, Hakimi won the men’s award. A panel of prominent African football writers and CAF specialists chose the right-back, capping a year in which he also placed sixth in the 2025 Ballon d’Or voting.

He was named in the CAF Team of the Year, the Ligue 1 Team of the Season, and the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season due to his reliability.

Hakimi won ahead of Mohamed Salah and Victor Osimhen.

Ghizlane Chebbak became the first Moroccan to win the CAF Women’s Player of the Year title with her win in the women’s division. After winning the Golden Boot at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and replicating her 2022 scoring achievement, the midfield player solidified her standing as one of Africa’s top performers.

After playing for Levante Badalona in Spain’s Liga F, Chebbak joined Saudi club Al Hilal in August and has since grown to be an important member of both club and the nation. She prevailed over fellow contenders Rasheedat Ajibade and Sanaa Mssoudy.
