Cameroon announce squad for March international break; Andre Onana included

The Indomitable Lions will start the tournament against Gabon.

Former Man United goalie Andre Onana has been left off Cameroon’s roster for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which begins this month in Morocco. David Pagou has been named coach in place of Belgian Marc Brys.

Onana, on loan at Trabzonspor from Manchester United, is one among multiple senior players axed for the December 21 to January 18 tournament, notably striker Vincent Aboubakar, who has served as a cornerstone of the squad for the last 15 years.

The modifications follow Cameroon’s failure to earn a spot in the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Carlos Baleba, a midfielder for Brighton & Hove Albion, and Bryan Mbeumo, a winger for Manchester United, are included in the team.

Marc Brys sacked

On the same days as the squad was named, Marc Brys was sacked. Since Brys, 63, was appointed by the sports ministry in April 2024, the head of the nation’s football federation.

David Pagou has been named the new coach ahead of AFCON.

On December 24, Cameroon will play Gabon in the AFCON finals in Agadir to begin their Group F campaign. It also contains the reigning champions, the Ivory Coast and Mozambique, in its pool.
