Cyle Larin scored for Canada against Bosnia and Herzegovina tonight.
Canada laboured to a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in their FIFA World Cup 2026 opener at BMO Field on June 12. Les Rouges controlled most of the match but went behind in the 21st minute when Luka Jovic headed past Maxime Crepeau.
The co-hosts stuck to their plan and finally broke the Bosnian backline in the 78th minute. Moments after coming on as a substitute, Cyle Larin was found by a brilliant pass from Jonathan David. The Mallorca forward overpowered his marker and found the bottom corner with a piledriver shot.
The goal not only brought the home side back into the contest but also entered Larin’s name in the history books as only the second player to score for the North American side in World Cup history.

Canada made their World Cup debut in 1986 but lost all three of their group games without scoring. Their campaign in 2022 began on the same note, losing 1-0 to Belgium.
However, in the 4-1 defeat to Croatia, Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies became the first Canadian scorer in the tournament. Les Rouges chalked up another goal in the next match against Morocco, but it was an own goal from Nayef Aguerd.
Now, Larin’s goal makes him the second player from his nation to achieve the feat of scoring in FIFA’s flagship tournament. Tonight’s result was historic in another aspect as it represented the first point won by Canada in the World Cup, having lost their last six games in the competition.
