The Canucks can seal qualification for the Round of 32 by avoiding defeat in tonight’s match.

Canada take on Switzerland in their final Group B game of the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 at BC Place in Vancouver on June 24. The Canucks sit top of the group after two rounds with four points, and can progress to the knockout stages for the first time in their history by avoiding defeat tonight.

The co-hosts began their campaign with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Jovo Lukic had put the Dragons ahead inside 21 minutes, and the home side needed a late goal from Cyle Larin to rescue a point.

However, they clinched their first-ever win in the quadrennial tournament in the next fixture, thrashing Qatar 6-0. Despite a gruesome injury to Ismael Kone dampening the mood in the camp, Jesse Marsch’s men were rampant against their opponents.

All they need to do now to move to the Round of 32 is to win or draw against Switzerland. However, with the group winner facing an easier path in the next stage, Marsch will want his players to go for all three points tonight.

Thoughts on the lineup

Orlando City goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau keeps his place between the sticks. There are no indications as to whether Alphonso Davies has recovered. from his hamstring issue and will be fit enough to play tonight, so Richie Laryea starts at left-back.

Derek Cornelius and Luc de Fougerolles are both on yellow cards, but Marsch opted to stick with his established centre-back pairing. Former Croatia U-21 international Niko Sigur is an option off the bench, as is Nice’s Moise Bambito. Celtic star Alistair Johnston starts at right-back.

With Ismael Kone out for a lengthy period, Nathan Saliba comes in for him, having scored a wonderful free-kick in the previous match. He joinsMathieu Choiniere, who replaces LAFC teammate Stephen Eustaquio in central midfield. Villarreal’s Tajon Buchanan and Norwich City’s Ali Ahmed start on the flanks.

The established strike partnership of Jonathan David and Cyle Larin, both of whom found the back of the net against Qatar, start up front.
