Les Rouges ran riot against the Maroons.
One of the co-hosts of the FIFA World Cup, Canada, locked horns with the Qatar national football team for their second game of the tournament. The high-scoring clash took place at BC Place.
Canada put in a sensational performance and are very close to securing a spot in the knockout stage of the flagship competition. They put in a top effort to secure three important points with an eye-pleasing 6-0 victory. Jesse Marsch’s men worked on their mistakes from the opening game and now have a victory to their name on the grandest stage of them all.
The Qatar national football team put in a poor show and are most likely not able to get to the next stage of the mega competition.
Five important things we learned from this match:
1. Canada’s first-ever World Cup win
The Canadian men’s national soccer team have secured their first-ever win on the grandest stage of them all. With this 6-0 win against Qatar, they have engraved their name in the history books. It was a top performance by the Canadian contingent. Ismaël Koné sustained an injury and it looked like something serious.
2. Jonathan David with a historic hat-trick

The Juventus forward put in a brilliant performance for Les Rouges. He scored the first-ever hat-trick for Canada at the FIFA World Cup. With his three goals against Qatar, he engraved his name in the history of the competition. Jonathan David went goalless in the opening game, but with a brilliant hat-trick, he has shown that he is ready for the world stage.

3. High pressing by Jesse Marsch’s men
The Canadian men’s national football team came up with a different approach to the game. They maintained ball control in the previous game as well, but in the attack, their performance was below par. This time around, they came up with high pressing, and the defence of Qatar did not know how to stop them. Cyle Larin opened the scoring for Les Rouges. Jonathan David came up with a sensational hat-trick and Nathan Saliba also engraved his name on the scoresheet. Mohammed Manai scored an own-goal.
4. Indisciplined Qatar
The Maroons were already under pressure from the beginning of the game. Homam Ahmed was shown the first red card in the 33rd minute and Qatar were reduced to 9 men after Assim Madibo’s brutal tackle on Ismaël Koné. The two red cards only put pressure on the Julen Lopetegui-led side. They are now on the verge of getting knocked out of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
5. A poor Qatari defence
The Qatar national football team came up with a top performance in their backline during the opening game against Switzerland. In a turn of events, Les Rouges thumped them and secured a 6-0 win. The Qatari defence did not look calm and composed today. With two red cards, they will miss out on a couple of players for their next game.
