"I cannot guarantee that I will stay," says Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim amid Liverpool & Barcelona links
Liverpool and Barcelona are interested in appointing Ruben Amorim as their next manager
Ruben Amorim, the manager of Sporting CP, has spoken about his future and stated that he cannot promise to stay with the Portuguese team. Liverpool are thinking about hiring him to succeed Jurgen Klopp at the end of the current campaign.
Having announced his departure in the summer, Klopp’s departure has left the Reds searching for a new manager. Finding the ideal successor will be the responsibility of Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards, who have already suffered a setback when Xabi Alonso said he would remain with Bayer Leverkusen.
Amorim of Sporting CP, who is doing a fantastic job with the Portuguese team, is a target for Liverpool. Amorim might rise to the top of the standings now that Alonso is out of the running.
In light of Liverpool’s rumoured interest in Amorim, the player has now addressed the media regarding his future with Sporting and has acknowledged that, unlike Alonso in March, he cannot promise he would continue with his current club.
Fans of Liverpool should be pleased to hear that Amorim isn’t ruling out leaving the team. In anticipation of a possible bid from the Merseyside team, the Sporting manager seems to be holding out for other possibilities.

“I cannot guarantee that I will stay at Sporting next season. I can’t say that like Xabi Alonso did. We have time to discuss my future, we will do that at the right time. Now focus on winning titles and then we will see what happens.”
“That has always been very clear since the beginning and it was something I thought was important to tell my players because we have to win. First we’ll win titles then we can decide [the future].
“But that’s not something that concerns me because the future has been planned by the club for some time. We are outlining all the situations and everything we want for next season and that is the main reason as to why I can’t guarantee it.
“Because like I said, I’ve spoken to the players and as a leader I can’t go back on my word. We have to win titles, we are on the right path and we must win this game to do so.”
“I don’t want to be talking too much about my future, the focus is on the game. But I can say that I won’t argue or put any pressure on Sporting, I owe the club a lot and what will happen, will happen. But there won’t ever be any pressure from me towards the club because I owe a lot to Sporting.
“I’m very happy here and I just wanted to clarify that. The focus is on the game because we want to win titles.”
