FIFA World Cup to kick off on June 12.

Football’s grandest tournament, the 2026 FIFA World Cup, is a week away from its inaugural match. The excitement for the competition is increasing with every passing countdown.

The 2026 edition is on track to create some of the most unique records in the tournament’s history. Co-hosted by the USA, Mexico and Canada, the competition will be returning to North American soil after 32 years. It will also be the largest edition to date, with a record 48 teams set to participate, instead of the traditional 32 nations, raising the total matches from 94 to 104.

The tournament is also highly regarded for producing some of the greatest leaders of the pitch. Players like Lionel Messi, Fabio Cannavaro and Franz Beckenbauer have cemented their stature for their on-field decision-making and their epic mentality. With the competition expanding to 48 teams, the quality of team captains will be put to an immense test, with each team battling for the coveted title.

With the tournament set to kick off on June 12, team captains from around the world will be tasked with navigating through the group stages before making their mark in the competition’s knockout rounds.
