Carlo Ancelotti backs Kylian Mbappe to make similar impact as Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid

Mbappe has scored 33 goals so far in his debut season.
Kylian Mbappe has been backed by Carlo Ancelotti to make an impact at Real Madrid comparable to that of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Since making his eagerly anticipated move to the Bernabeu this summer, Mbappe has made 27 appearances and has scored 22 LaLiga goals.
However, following his move, the Frenchman did strive to remain influential and came under plenty of scrutiny. But as the season progressed, he started to find the back of the net regularly and is now the second top scorer in the league.
In the Champions League, he has also scored seven goals, helping advance Real Madrid to the quarterfinals, where they will play Arsenal.
On Saturday, Ancelotti’s team overcame a deficit to win 3-2 and stay within three points of league toppers Barcelona, thanks to two goals from Mbappe, including the game-winning goal.
Ancelotti was questioned about whether the Frenchman may surpass Ronaldo’s record at the club even if Mbappe’s career at the Bernabeu is still in its early stages.
“It’s difficult but I wish Mbappe to match Ronaldo at Real Madrid for a long time, of course,” Ancelotti replied.
“He has the quality to make it, I hope he becomes a legend of this club. He can do it. Cristiano’s impact here was more than goals.”
During the nine years he spent in Spain, Ronaldo scored 451 goals in 438 games, becoming Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorer.
With his double against Leganes, Mbappe reached 33 goals in all competitions this season, which is the same number that Ronaldo scored in his debut season at Real Madrid.
Following that game, Mbappe disclosed that he communicates with Ronaldo regularly.
“Me and Cristiano Ronaldo speak frequently,” Mbappe said. “He gives me a lot of advice.
“I’m very happy to equal his goals in the first season, we know what he represents for all of us. But the really important thing is to win trophies with Real Madrid.”
