Carlo Ancelotti set to use Kylian Mbappe on left wing to ignite his confidence: Report

Mbappe has found it hard to make a mark at Real Madrid.

According to journalist Jorge Pico, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is thinking about moving Kylian Mbappe to a different position before the team’s encounter against Leganes.

Potential positions for the French attacker include left wing, where he has excelled throughout his career. This would be a change from his typical position as a centre-forward, which Ancelotti has favoured ever since he joined the team.

Real Madrid are still awaiting Mbappe to return to his peak performance as the season approaches the three-month mark.

Although his stats—eight goals and two assists in 16 games—are good, they don’t live up to the lofty standards set for him upon his arrival.

Several have been pushing for Mbappe to be fielded on the left flank, an area where he has traditionally stood out, but that position is presently filled by Vinicius Jr., who has been superb on that side for Real Madrid.

Mbappe may, however, have the chance to play on the left in the forthcoming game against Leganes, as Ancelotti is giving this position careful thought.

Although the choice is still up in the air, it is moving forward, and a lot of it will depend on Vinicius’s ability to rest. The Brazilian attacker might use a rest after playing two demanding 90-minute international matches recently.

Ancelotti has stated that Vinicius will always be his first-choice left winger, with Mbappe serving as the team’s primary centre-forward, regardless of Leganes’ result.

Nevertheless, the manager understands that allowing Mbappe to play on the left could boost his confidence, particularly following a four-game goal drought.

Mbappe had previously scored 16 goals at this point in the previous season, and by this point in the 2022–2023 campaign, he had registered 25 goals. The hope is that a quick change in position will inspire an abrupt shift in his performance that will bring him to his customary high-scoring form.
