According to reports, the LA Galaxy are “exploring” a free move for Casemiro. The Brazilian international has stated that he will leave Manchester United when his contract expires in June. He has additionally been linked to a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.
In 2022, United paid £70 million ($96 million) to sign him from Real Madrid. Since then, he has made 148 appearances for the Red Devils and scored 22 goals. Under Michael Carrick, who took over as first-team manager following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal in January, the 33-year-old has been a crucial player once more this season and may have been the star performer in United’s recent three straight victories.
However, the Brazilian has stated that this is going to be his last season at Old Trafford. There has been a lot of curiosity around his next move.
MLS club pursuing a free move for Casemiro
MLS side LA Galaxy are currently investigating if they could sign Casemiro under the MLS designated player rule, according to the Daily Mail. The designated player rule, which was first implemented in 2007 when David Beckham joined Galaxy, permits MLS teams to agree with up to three players whose salaries and acquisition expenses are beyond the “cap”—the league’s pay budget.
After Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Beckham, Casemiro might be the third United cult idol to play for Galaxy. Ibrahimovic spent two seasons between 2018 and 2019 at Dignity Health Sports Park, while the latter won two MLS Cups there before departing in 2012.
Casemiro had reportedly declined a move to Al-Nassr last summer, which would have allowed him to play with Cristiano Ronaldo.
With 14 games remaining in the Premier League, United are currently ranked fourth. At the moment, Casemiro will be looking to play a key role for the Red Devils to help them qualify for a UEFA Champions League spot.
