The Brazilian perfect record in the European final came to an end.
Casemiro has played in eight European finals when Manchester United faced Tottenham Hotspur in the 2024-25 UEFA Europa League final on 21st May. The Brazilian star has had success on many of football’s grandest stages. However, this time his luck ran out as Spurs defeated United 1-0 in the final.
United have not won a European trophy since their win against Ajax in the Europa League, and their Europa League trophy drought continued when they lost to their Premier League rival.
Despite their horror season in the Premier League, where they have won only 10 matches this campaign and are 16th in the league, they will end the season on a disappointing note.
The win in this final could have salvaged their season had they managed to beat the Spurs. A win could have seen them book their ticket to the UEFA Champions League for next term.
However, this time, neither team was a favourite going into this match, given that both are enduring one of their worst seasons in their history.
This might have been a different story for the club had they beaten Spurs. Considering United’s Casemiro revived his form at the most important time, but couldn’t manage to steer United to a win.
The Former Real Madrid star’s addition provided a major experience to the squad, given his European record. Casemiro has played in seven European finals and has won all of them. All have come in a Real Madrid shirt.
Casemiro hoped to continue his European winning streak when he faced Spurs in the Europa League. However, this time he failed to maintain his winning streak, given that he has mainly played in the Champions League for the Los Blancos and has swept aside all the trophies.
In all those finals, he has been a key player. His famous goal came against Juventus, when Real Madrid, the defending champions, beat Juventus 4–1 in the match.
Now that it will be interesting to see if the Brazilian will continue playing for United for next season or the club will decide to offload him in the summer to inject some cash for new signings.
