Cesc Fabregas agrees to become next Inter Milan manager: Report

The former Spain international is set to take the next step in his coaching career.
Foot Mercato reported that “Cesc” Fabregas, a former Spain international, has agreed to take over as manager of Inter Milan.
After Inter Milan lost to PSG 5-0 in the UEFA Champions League final on Tuesday to complete a season without a trophy, Simone Inzaghi decided to call it quits on his time there.
Inzaghi is anticipated to become one of the highest-paid coaches in the world after taking over at Al-Hilal, a Saudi Pro League team.
According to reports, Inter Milan had two candidates on their shortlist to succeed the former Italy international: Fabregas and Roberto De Zerbi.
Given that the Serie A runners-up have established a personal agreement with the former Chelsea and AS Monaco midfielder, the Marseille head coach De Zerbi is expected to remain in Ligue 1.
Two years ago, Cesc Fabregas took up the coaching position at Como. He led Lariani to tenth place this Serie A season (2024-25) after getting promoted in his debut campaign. Foot Mercato has further revealed that Inter and Como must now agree on a compensation amount.
AS Roma also targeted Fabregas, but the Italian team chose Gian Piero Gasperini, the former manager of Atalanta, instead.
Additionally, after starting at Como, Fabregas is eager to relocate and take advantage of the possible professional advancement in his career that it could offer.
According to the outlet, Fabregas discussed the possible transfer over the phone with Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta on Wednesday.
Earlier, Fabregas was awarded the full-time position in July 2024 after initially joining on an interim basis in November 2023 at Como.
Since then, he has managed 38 games for the team, helping them advance from Serie B to Serie A until finishing in 10th position this year in the first division.
Paris Saint-Germain, meanwhile, had put on an incredible display on Saturday, defeating Inter 5-0 in Munich to win Europe’s top club competition for the first time.
Inter also lost to Napoli by just one point in the Serie A championship race. This final league game outcome brought their season to a painful close.
