Los Blancos are currently experiencing an injury-ravaged season.
Real Madrid will travel to Etihad Stadium for their UEFA Champions League play-offs match against Manchester City for the first leg on Tuesday.
However, the club will miss plenty of their players ahead of the crucial match. Los Blancos are set to be without half of their defensive players due to injury.
The Spanish capital team is currently enduring an injury-blighted season and now they will face reigning Premier League champions with second-choice defenders.
Real Madrid injury news ahead of Manchester City clash
Carlo Ancelotti has a handful of defensive choices as his team gets ready for the difficult trip to Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium for the opening leg of their Champions League knockout play-offs.
The defending European champions are currently experiencing what Carlo Ancelotti rightly called an “emergency”. Real Madrid were forced to start without senior centre-backs against their local rivals, Atletico Madrid, on Saturday night. While Eder Militao is gone for the season due to an ACL tear, Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba are anticipated to stay out of the continental match.
To pile for misery now they will be left with no options in the right-back area after Lucas Vazquez suffered an injury during the Madrid Derby.
Real Madrid have confirmed that Lucas Vazquez, their backup right-back, will not be included in the team for Tuesday night’s crucial Champions League matchup against Manchester City due to a hamstring injury.
Vazquez was Ancelotti’s only obvious choice at right-back because Dani Carvajal has missed the entire season due to a major knee injury. But during the 1-1 draw with Atletico, the converted full-back suffered a muscle injury that is likely to put him in the treatment room for 15 to 20 days.
This has now left the Italian head coach with no right-back option. Ancelotti might have to use one of his first-team players out of position. It’s likely to be Federico Valverde, who has earlier operated as a full-back.
