Delap won’t require surgery after suffering a hamstring injury.
Chelsea could soon include Liam Delap in the squad as the striker’s recent injury doesn’t necessitate surgery. The player will be back in training in November.
The Blues’ no.9 option was reduced to only one when Delap suffered a major injury in a game against Fulham. He was substituted in the first half, and it didn’t look good for the striker.
Delap aiming to return in 10 weeks
However, according to The Athletic, recent developments of his injury have handed a major boost to the Blues. They can expect their summer signing to be back in approximately 10 weeks.
The Blues got their striker during the summer transfer window. Ipswich Town were relegated. It propelled the London club to trigger his release clause in his contract.
However, his promising start to life at Chelsea didn’t last long as the 22-year-old suffered a major injury setback in the Blues’ third game of the season.
Nonetheless, he won’t need surgery, which is welcoming news for him and Chelsea. A surgery might have kept him on the sidelines for a longer period of time.
Until then, Chelsea are set to be dependent on another summer signing, Joao Pedro, who joined the club during the Club World Cup. To have an extra option in the centre-forward role, Chelsea opted to call Marc Guiu back to the club. The Spanish player had joined Sunderland in the recent window.
Therefore, he will be an extra alternative in that position that Enzo Masreca can count on. Meanwhile, the club will wait for Delap, who will return to the action during the hectic period of the season.
With Chelsea also in the UEFA Champions League this season, the club will hope to avoid more injury setbacks. They will have a packed fixture list ahead as the UCL begins this month.
