Chelsea’s route to FIFA Club World Cup 2025 final

The Blues will face either Real Madrid or PSG in the final.
Chelsea have booked their place in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 final. They easily defeated Fluminense 2-0 in the semi-final of the tournament following a brace from João Pedro. The Blues rightfully demonstrated their competitive level in the tournament and successfully reached the final of the event.
However, many would argue that the West Londoners had an easy path to the final. Still, they have beaten those sides that even overcame some of the European teams.
Chelsea will now wait to learn their final opponent tonight when Paris Saint-Germain face Real Madrid in the other semi-final of the Club World Cup 2025. With this, we take a look at Enzo Maresca and Co.’s road to the final.
Chelsea’s path to the Club World Cup Final:
Group stage game 1: Chelsea 2-0 Los Angeles FC
The Blues opened their Club World Cup journey with a convincing win. They defeated the Major League Club Los Angeles 2-0. Pedro Neto broke the deadlock before captain Enzo Fernandez doubled their lead as Maresca’s side secured their first win of the newly revamped competition.
Group stage game 2: Flamengo 3-1 Chelsea
However, they were humbled quickly in their next group game. This match was one of the top upsets of the competition. The Blues faced the Brazilian side, Flamengo.
The English club were favourites to secure another win in the Group stage. However, the South American club had other ideas.
After Pedro Neto opened the scoring for the Premier League giants in 13 minutes, they were ahead until halftime. It seemed Chelsea were clear frontrunners to win the game. However, Flamengo finally found their rhythm in the match as they equalised in the 62nd minute through Bruno Henrique.
They extended their lead inside three minutes after their first goal. This time, Danilo was on the scoresheet. To safeguard their lead, the Brazilian team found the back of the net in the 83rd minute via Wallace Yan, inflicting one of the heaviest defeats on the west Londoners by a non-European team.
Group stage game 3: Esperance ST 0-3 Chelsea
The Blues’ last group game was against a lesser-known team. They got the job done without any trouble. Tosin Adarabioyo, Liam Delap and Tyrique George were all involved in the scoresheet.
It helped Enzo Maresca’s side get back their tempo post the mayhem against the Brazilian outfit.
Round of 16: Benfica 1-4 Chelsea
Maresca’s team were lucky not to be put in a difficult bracket. Their opponents in the knockout journey involved less competitive teams. To start off, the West Londoners faced a European side, Benfica.
Although it seemed like it would be a toe-to-toe match, Chelsea were able to ease past the Portuguese team with a commanding lead. They beat Benfica 4-1 in the round of 16 and reached the next phase of the tournament.
Quarter-final: Palmeiras 1-2 Chelsea
The Blues once again encountered a Brazilian team in the tournament, and this time it was Palmeiras. Making no previous mistakes, the English side played with aplomb. They broke the deadlock when Cole Plamer slotted the ball beyond the goalkeeper in the 16th minute.
However, Palmeiras exhibited their resilience and equalised in the second half through their most talented winger Estevao, who is ironically set to join Chelsea next season.
This time, however, the Blues were lucky against a Brazilian team. Palmeiras gifted them an own goal when Agustin Giay put the ball in his own net and handed them the path to the semi-final.
Semi-final: Fluminense 0-2 Chelsea
This was the third Brazilian team, Fluminense, the Blues, were facing. In this matchup, they looked like a better side. They won, booking their place in the final with a 2-0 triumph.
Final:
The Premier League side will learn their opponent for the final tonight, when Real Madrid face PSG in the other semi-final.
