The Belgian midfielder will leave Manchester City as a free agent after the end of the season.

According to reports, Chicago Fire, a Major League Soccer team, will begin negotiations with Kevin De Bruyne, a Manchester City star.

After the Cityzens decided not to offer their iconic midfielder a new contract as they attempt to assemble their team for the future, De Bruyne declared last month that he would be leaving Manchester City. This would happen at the end of the current campaign.

With moves to the Saudi Pro League or Major League Soccer being suggested, the Belgian superstar is currently searching for “projects” both inside and outside of Europe.

Despite Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami having the discovery rights of the midfielder, Major League Soccer team Chicago Fire are reportedly eager to start a conversation with De Bruyne in order to persuade him to join the team, according to ESPN.

The Fire have an “inside track” on the Herons and assume that Inter Miami will not exercise their option since Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba already hold their Designated Player berths.

The Chicago Fire think they have the best chance of acquiring the Manchester City legend if De Bruyne is amenable to moving to the US. According to ESPN, D.C. United and New York City FC are reportedly also interested, but like Inter Miami, they do not currently have a Designated Player berth available on their roster.

Gregg Berhalter, the former head coach of the USMNT and current Fire boss, has also made it clear that he wants to add a playmaker to strengthen the team’s offensive line.

The Belgian maestro is eager to get City ready for their FA Cup final matchup with Crystal Palace in order to prevent leaving trophyless for the first time since 2017. He has insisted that he will not decide on his future club until the beginning of the summer break.
