Liverpool and Ibrahima Konate didn’t agree on a contract extension.

Liverpool recently concluded an abysmal season. Despite finishing fifth, the team’s performance surely declined. It is the same side that entered the 2025-26 Premier League season as reigning champions.

Liverpool also had a poor UEFA Champions League outing, enduring a poor campaign. PSG, eventual winners, thrashed the English side 4-0 on aggregate in the quarter-finals.

Ibrahima Konaté, one of Liverpool’s key players, has announced that he is leaving the side. After joining the team in 2021, Konaté has been instrumental. The player was considered to be a permanent partner alongside Virgil van Dijk.

However, the player and club have not reached an agreement regarding a contract extension, despite Konaté previously indicating positive talks about renewal. With Konaté set to be a free agent, top European clubs will be closely monitoring him for the future.

Five Clubs that Ibrahima Konate Could Join in the Summer

5. FC Barcelona

Barcelona have made a remarkable turnaround under manager Hansi Flick, winning two consecutive LaLiga titles. The Frenchman could be a key addition to the Catalan side, as he possesses the necessary physicality and raw pace, traits essential for Barcelona’s famous “high-line” defensive structure. With the club returning to favourable economic conditions, interest from the side is highly expected.

4. Bayern Munich

Bundesliga outfit Bayern Munich could be aiming to sign the defender to strengthen the overall defence. Bayern, after an impressive season, could sign the Frenchman to bring the required stability. Ibrahima Konate is also considered due to his experience in the league, after making a breakthrough at RB Leipzig.

The Bavarian side have constantly been monitoring the player, keeping him on the radar since 2025.

3. Chelsea

Defence is one of the key areas that the Blues have to upgrade after a disappointing 10th-place finish. Under the new incoming manager, Xabi Alonso, Konaté could be a statement signing, bringing in the required experience. With the side desperate to return to European football, Chelsea have already made enquiries about the Frenchman.

2. Real Madrid

Real Madrid’s recent season has been marred by controversies and poor results, which have forced the side to look for reinforcements in the summer. Los Blancos have a huge history of onboarding free elite defenders such as David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger. Since acquiring Liverpool talent Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer, the club have been constantly monitoring Konaté.

They are maintaining a close relationship with Ibrahima Konate’s representatives. His French teammate Kylian Mbappe could also be an influencing factor on the transfer.

1. Paris Saint-Germain

PSG could be the ultimate destination for the French defender Ibrahima Konate after being raised in the country. They are in excellent form. The team won their second consecutive Champions League title.

With captain Marquinhos nearing the end of his career, the club are in search of a suitable replacement. Manager Luis Enrique will be in search of an elite defender to implement his attacking brand of football. PSG could be the most preferred option for the Frenchman, with the club easily able to afford the salary expectations.
