Nico Williams enjoyed a breakout campaign last season for both club and country.

One of the hottest transfer prospects this summer is Athletic Bilbao’s sensational winger Nico Williams.

During the 2023–24 season, Williams enjoyed a breakout campaign with Bilbao, making 37 appearances across all competitions and recording an incredible eight goals and 19 assists in the process. His unbelievable performances guided the club to Cup success, as they clinched the prestigious Copa del Rey trophy.

The 22-year-old winger carried his red-hot form into Euro 2024, as his breathtaking displays and vital contributions of two goals and one assist enabled Spain to lift their fourth European Championship in history.

Following a stellar campaign for both club and country, coupled with an enticing release clause of just €58 million in his current contract, the talented Spanish winger is on the radar of several top clubs. With that said, here are the top five clubs Nico Williams can join in the summer of 2024:

5. Manchester United

The Red Devils have been one of the most proactive teams in the transfer market so far, already completing two major signings in the form of Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and Leny Yoro from LOSC Lille.

However, one of the biggest issues Manchester United have faced in recent years has been on the wings, where they have consistently lacked creativity and output. Their dynamic wingers, such as Marcus Rashford and Antony, have all been misfiring up front, resulting in the team being lacklustre in attack.

The recruitment of a direct winger like Nico Williams could definitely be on the cards for the United hierarchy this summer, as they hope to leave no stone unturned during this colossal club rebuild.

4. Chelsea

Chelsea are once again enjoying an active transfer window, which has proven to be a common trend ever since the new ownership of Todd Boehly took over the reins of the club. With Chelsea’s transfer strategy primarily focusing on talented youngsters with high potential, the signing of Nico Williams would perfectly fit that basket.

With the team constantly lacking decisive output in the final third of play, the 22-year-old winger could definitely bring a different dynamic to the attack with his incredible pace, skilful dribbling and composed finishing.

3. PSG

French giants Paris Saint-Germain are in the middle of a major rebuild this summer following the departure of one of their greatest players of all time Kylian Mbappe. With superstar talents such as Victor Osimhen and Joao Neves linked with the club, Nico Williams could well and truly be another addition on their list of transfer targets.

PSG will hope to secure their attacking lineup for the present and future in this transfer window itself, with Ousmane Dembele on the right, Osimhen up front and Williams on the left flank. A move to France this summer could definitely be on the cards for the talented Spanish winger.

2. Liverpool

Liverpool have been one of the few clubs that are yet to make a signing this summer. In the post-Jurgen Klopp era for the Reds, the club hierarchy is looking for strategic recruitment instead of spending big money during this transitional phase.

With his bargain release clause in play, Liverpool could definitely make a move for Nico Williams in this transfer window. If the Premier League side manage to get the 22-year-old winger, then they could have potentially found the long-term replacement of Sadio Mane.

With his blistering pace, direct style of play and incredible work rate, Nico Williams would be the perfect signing for Liverpool, instantly bolstering their attacking lineup.

1. FC Barcelona

One of the frontrunners to sign Nico Williams this summer are Spanish giants FC Barcelona, that have made their interest in signing the player public on multiple occasions.

In order to comply with the Financial Fair Play rules of LaLiga, Barcelona are just solely focussing on finding a way to pay Williams’ release clause and sign him on a permanent deal.

Following the stellar success of the duo of Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams for Spain during Euro 2024, the Barcelona board, led by President Joan Laporta, is working tirelessly behind the scenes to recreate the partnership at the club level for the upcoming season.
