The legendary midfielder’s next stop could be one of these clubs
Luka Modric has officially announced his departure from Real Madrid. The Croatian legend will leave the club after the 2025 Club World Cup, ending his highly successful time with Los Blancos. In 13 seasons, he won 28 titles with Real Madrid, which makes him the most decorated player in the club’s history.
His trophy cabinet includes six UEFA Champions Leagues, four LaLiga titles, six FIFA Club World Cups, five European Super Cups, two Copa del Reys and five Spanish Super Cups. Luka Modric was reportedly looking to extend his contract with the club for another year, but after a difficult season, the management decided otherwise.
He will be a free agent, and despite being 39, he can still offer a lot. He is a maestro who can effortlessly link defense with attack and will have many offers on the table from clubs all across the world. In this article, we will take a look at five clubs that can serve as the next destination in Luka Modric’s historic career.
5. Al Nassr
The football landscape in Saudi Arabia has transformed in recent years as the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Riyad Mahrez are currently playing in the country. Saudi Arabia have also made a lot of different and lucrative offers to Modric in recent years.
However, all of them were denied as the midfielder was solely focused on Real Madrid. Now with his departure being confirmed, Saudi giants Al Nassr can make a move and reunite Modric with his former teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo.
4. Inter Miami
Reports confirming Inter Miami’s interest in Luka Modric have been emerging since late 2023. The rise of the Herons in Major League Soccer has been meteoric and as the club is eyeing even more success in upcoming years, Luka Modric will be the perfect player to partner Sergio Busquets in their midfield.
The owner, David Beckham, is a huge fan of the Croatian and has reportedly expressed his desire to bring him to Miami on many occasions as well. This move will also allow fans to finally witness Lionel Messi and Luka Modric being teammates after opposing each other for more than a decade.
3. Fenerbahçe S.K.
Despite not being a part of the top five, Turkey’s Süper Lig is one of the best leagues in the world. Luka Modric has always been very competitive and considering the quality he still possesses, a move to Fenerbahce will make perfect sense for him.
Jose Mourinho was the one who brought him to Real Madrid 13 years ago and despite initial criticism, he always believed in the Croatian. Jose also has a habit of signing his old players wherever he goes and Luka Modric can be a new addition to that list.
2. A.C. Milan
Another league that Luka Modric can explore after his exit is Italy’s Serie A. Football is typically played at a low pace in Italy, which will be perfect for Luka Modric during the twilight of his career.
In the current landscape, A.C. Milan will be the most suitable club for him and it will be a treat for the fans to see him in the iconic colours of the Rossoneri. Pedja Mijatovic, a close friend of Modric, has also stated that Luka will stay in Europe to prepare for the 2026 World Cup, which makes this move a realistic possibility.
1. Dinamo Zagreb
Hanging up their boots while playing for their boyhood club is a dream of every single football player. Luka Modric burst onto the European scene after showing his immense quality with Dinamo. He spent four years at the club and became one of their most important players.
He helped his team win three cup trophies and also led them to win three consecutive league titles from 2005 to 2008. Returning to his home country and Dinamo Zagreb are very likely for the Croatian in the upcoming transfer window.
