Top three clubs that Xavi could join after Barcelona exit
Many clubs would be willing to appoint Xavi as their new head coach.
Xavi is now without a job after the former Barcelona coach was sacked by the Catalan club in the summer following a dispute with the club. Since then he was linked with with many clubs during the summer window. But it was not concrete and the former midfielder remained unemployed.
The Spaniard’s time at Barcelona saw them win LaLiga during their turbulent situation. Many clubs might have addressed how Xavi managed to lead the club to the title in his next season. Considering he is without a club many top European sides will be hoping to appoint him as their next gaffer for next season. We take a look at the top three clubs whom Xavi could manage for the next term.
3. Newcastle United
Eddie Howe’s future remains up in the air at the club. His relationship with Paul Mitchell turned sour after the Sporting director criticised the club’s previous recruitment plan, which Howe defended. Since then the situation has become hostile.
Reports reveal either one of them could leave the club. If Howe departs then the Magpies should appoint Xavi. The new coach could bring a different philosophy to the club and will also be backed by wealthy owners, which wasn’t the case at Barcelona. The LaLiga side didn’t support him financially and he had to use academy players.
2. AS Roma
AS Roma’s sacking of Daniele de Rossi shocked the fans given Rossi’s relationship with the supporters. At Roma, he spent his entire playing career and later also got the chance to become their manager. The Serie A after sacking the club legend appointed Ivan Juric. Juric has taken charge of the club until the end of the season.
Meanwhile, other reports revealed that Roma also contacted Xavi, who rejected the approach. But given Juric’s contract runs out at the end of the 2024-25 season, Xavi might reconsider his decision if the Italian team comes knocking again. He should be a good fit for the job and will bring a different philosophy to the club.
1. AC Milan
Paulo Fonseca’s future has come under scrutiny following a terrible run. If the team continues to perform like this, the Italian club AC Milan might fire him midway through the season. The Serie A side might also be a suitable alternative for Xavi.
He can once again establish his credibility as a coach there. Since Milan are one of the best teams in Italy, Xavi can take on the challenge of reversing the team’s fortunes. Considering how rapidly he transformed Barcelona’s prospects in his second season at the club, the Italian might also find him suitable. If the former Barcelona player is prepared to take the job, Milan ought to contemplate making Xavi their head coach.
